What happens when natural cosmetics meets Korean beauty industry? We will get a brand with a BDIH and EWG certificates and a whole line based on natural fermentation. Let me introduce you to a Korean beauty brand called Whamisa and show you how it helped me to survive an acid treatment with a product which I thought it will be useless for my skincare - Whamisa Organic Flowers Olive Leaf Mist.

Couple words about brand
Whamisa is a natural brand from South Korea. All Whamisa products are based on fermentation. What's really interesting, the logo of the brand contains Chinese characters which mean flower, beauty and four factors. This brand was appreciated by EWG - all their products have met the EWG's requirements.

Packaging
The whole design of the packaging is well planned. It doesn't only look very appealing but it also fits the company's idea - I can easily see that this brand is all about nature, natural ingredients and tradition - something that you can't usually spot in cosmetics because now everything is all about minimalism and even if I love minimalism, Whamisa is a good example how to mix minimalism, nature and their roots in the packaging design.

Skin Type
This mist is suitable for all skin types, but it'll work the best for acne-prone, oily and combination skin.

Aloe Maculata Leaf Extract also known as soap aloe and it's an African plant. I had problems with this extract because according to EWG it might be cancerous, but on the other sources, there were no data if it really is or not. According to EWG, the main problem is the natural pigment in Aloe Maculata and it can be cancerous if we use a non-decolorised ingredient. Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf & Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract - these ingredients should be good for every skin type, they were used even in ancient times because of antiseptic & anti-inflammatory properties of Olea Europaea. Olea Europaea is also an anti-oxidant so both these ingredients don't only cure acne but they also help with wrinkles. Caulerpa Lentillifera Extract also known as green caviar and sea grapes, it's a type of seaweed, good moisturiser and an anti-aging ingredient. Alcohol - this ingredient is used to increase skin absorption. Rhodiola Rosea Root Extract - an antioxidant, used in natural medicine, it helps with wrinkles and skin damages. Saururus Chinensis Leaf/Root Extract - also known as Chinese Lizard's Tail, but it's a plant. It's an antioxidant and skin brightener that cures inflammation. Angelica Keiskei Leaf/Stem Extract also known as Ashitaba, it contains lots of flavonoids that's why it's a potential antioxidant. Ashitaba has anti-inflammatory properties and it can probably help with wrinkles. Dioscorea Opposita (Wild Yam) Root Extract also known as Chinese Yam or Shan Yao and it's well known in Chinese Traditional Medicine. It is used by women in and after menopause. Centella Asiatica Extract, also known as Gotu Kola, it's one of my favourite ingredients. It doesn't only help with redness but it makes our skin calm and it helps with acne. It can be used on delicate sunburns. Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract - green tea is an antioxidant, it works not only for acne-prone and oily skin but it also helps with wrinkles, it's a moisturiser which can be used after delicate sunburns. Lactobacillus/Rice Ferment Filtrate, Lactobacillus/Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Ferment Filtrate, Lactobacillus/Chrysanthemum Sinense Flower Ferment Filtrate, Lactobacillus/Nelumbium Speciosum Flower Ferment Filtrate and Lactobacillus/Taraxacum Officinale (Dandelion) Rhizome/Root Ferment Filtrate are ferments, it is told that ferments are good moisturisers, they can help with skin ageing as well. Cetraria Islandica Extract - also known as Iceland Moss Extract, this extract is well known in Herbal Medicine, it helps with acne, psoriasis or even inflammation. This substance doesn't only moderate the sebum production but it's also a good moisturiser which will revitalise your skin. Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract - known as huáng qín in Traditional Chinese Medicine and it can be used as a treatment for psoriasis. It has anti-inflammatory properties but it also provides sun protection (even if it absorbs UVA&UVB rays, it still shouldn't be used as a sunscreen without any other substance like zinc oxide of any other mineral or chemical sunscreen) and it helps with allergies so it can be used even by people with sensitive skin. Paeonia Suffruticosa Root Extract - called Mu Dan Pi in Traditional Chinese Medicine, this extract is used for skin brightening, it is told that this extract can have anti-inflammatory properties. Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract - liquorice is used as a skin brightener, it's a very good substance, but it's not a good substance during the pregnancy. Natto Gum - it's a fermented soy and it's a moisturiser. Xanthan Gum & Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba (Guar) Gum - natural thickeners. Aniba Rosaeodora (Rosewood) Wood Oil - this substance shouldn't be used during the pregnancy, it's a Rosewood Oil and it gives a very delicate smell to the product and it's used as an anti-aging agent in cosmetics. Geranium Maculatum Oil - this substance has anti-inflammatory properties but it can also give the smell to the product. Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil - last but not least Bergamot Oil, you might know this smell from tea, it doesn't only give the smell to the product but it also works as an antiseptical ingredient. This oil might increase the reaction to the sunlight, that's why we can't use the bare ingredient on our skin in the summer.

Smell & Texture
It's hard to talk about the texture - if you need a mist which will quickly dry on your skin then it's a product for you. The smell is very delicate and flowery, I can't smell any alcohol in it. It's a refreshing composition, the smell will disappear quickly so even if you have a sensitive nose you can easily use it.

How does it work for me
I was surprised that this mist has increased the skin moisture, the other surprise for me is the fact that my skin does not react to any of these ingredients - I was scared that I might react to natto gum or any fermented ingredient - the fact is that fermented soy is being told to be safe for people with allergies - even if you have a soy allergy you might not have any reaction to fermented soy. Allergies are the very individual thing so if you've got an allergy to soy or any other ingredient in this product please do the patch test before buying or using this product on your face. One of the best things is fact that you can use this mist on your makeup, I like to use it during the day - especially if it's a warm one or if I have to spend long days in a very dry environment. I recommend to use it in your skincare routine before you but the cream on your face or before you put the makeup. I can't say if it really helps with acne or inflammation because I use many different products now and they are making my face look more bright. I also do not break out as often as I used to, but for sure it helped me to balance the skin moisture during the acid treatment.

Additional Information
According to the producer - this mist is a cruelty-free product and it's suitable for vegans. It contains 92.5% organic ingredients (according to glowrecipe.com) and it met EWG's requirements. This product has BDIH certificate.

Where to get this product?
Whamisa is a brand which is not really easy to find. You can get Whamisa Organic Flowers Olive Leaf Mist on Glowrecipe (38$),  Honeysu (29€) and Testerkorea (22$).

Sum up
I still don't think that face mist is necessary for our skincare, but if you struggle with dry skin and you need additional moisture then mist based on natural ingredients and ferments is the best choice. The price is quite big but we have to remember that any product with fermented ingredients will cost a lot due to the fermentation progress - it's like with wine - the longer the process is, the more it is going to cost.

Do you use face mist? Do you know Whamisa? How do you like this product? How do you care for your skin?
