Good product - no matter if it's a skincare product or hair care product - shouldn't only have a good looking packaging. As consumers, we started to care more about ingredients and environment. L'oreal's newest series - Botanicals Fresh Care is an answer to the newest trends in beauty. But is this series as green as producer claims?
Couple words about Botanicals Fresh Care
Botanicals Fresh Care is a brand related to L'oreal. The brand has decided to mix new technologies with natural ingredients to make new series of luxurious hair products. The packagings of products are made from recyclable materials but the formulas of cosmetics are not 100% natural, even if as it's stated by the brand - formulas are free from silicones, parabens and colourants. These series do not contain animal-derived ingredients. Even if the producer is telling us that products are suitable for vegans and vegetarians and that L'oreal do not test their products on animals there's still a little problem with China that's why these products are not considered as cruelty-free - to make it simple if you're selling your products in China then you're accepting the law and your products can be tested on animals in China before the release.
Shampoo
Ingredients: Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Coco-Betaine, Laureth-5 Carboxylic Acid, Cocamide MEA, Isopropyl Myristate, Cocos Nucifera Oil/Coconut Oil, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Acetate, Sodium Hydroxide, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Polyquaternium-10, Salicylic Acid, Limonene, Linalool, Benzyl Salicylate, Benzyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Geraniol, Coriandrum Sativum Seed Oil/Coriander Seed Oil, Ceteareth-60 Myristyl Glycol, Citric Acid, Hexylene Glycol, Glycine Soja Oil/Soybean Oil, Parfum
My main problem with this shampoo is that it doesn't really work on my hair. I just feel like my hair is oily all the time. It smells so nice and my hair is really soft in touch but my scalp it takes only 5 hours and I have to wash my hair again. I have to mention that my scalp is very sensitive and oily, to remove the oil from my hair it takes some time but if the products fail me from the first use it's sure I'm not going back to it. I think the biggest problem is in Sodium Laureth Sulfate - this ingredient can increase sebum/oil production. Ingredients aren't ideal - you can easily see PEG and SLS, and it's not all - there are more substances which we don't like - such as Cocamide MEA or Laureth-5 Carboxylic Acid. The main star here - Coriandrum Sativum Seed Oil/Coriander Seed Oil - is a source of omega-6 acids. This ingredient has antibacterial properties, it can be used for acne and oily skin but it helps with damaged hair and hair loss. It also gives a scent to the product.
Conditioner
Ingredients: Aqua, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycine Soja Oil/Soybean Oil, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cocos Nucifera Oil/Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Limonene, Benzoic Acid, Linalool, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydroxinnamate, Benzyl Salicylate, Benzyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Caprylyl Glycol, Geraniol, Coriandrum Sativum Seed Oil/Coriander Seed Oil, Glycerin, Parfum
I always avoid to put conditioner on the scalp - again, this product contains some ingredients which my scalp might not like. If it comes to hair - both I & my mum loved the scent and how this product works. I feel like my hair colour doesn't change while using it which is a very important thing for every person with dyed hair - the colour will always disappear a bit but if you use a product with harsh chemicals it can remove all the colour. I'm sure that my hair is stronger and shiny. The texture of this product is thick. The only thing is that I'm able to use the whole bottle quicker than a bottle of shampoo.
Essence
Ingredients: Aqua, Quaternium-87, Cocos Nucifera Oil/Coconut Oil, Sodium Benzoate, Stearyl Alcohol, PPG-1 Trideceth-6, Eugenol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Polyquaternium-37, Polysorbate 20, Polyquaternium-11, Limonene, Linalool, Candelilla Cera/Candelilla Wax, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydroxinnamate, Benzyl Salicylate, Benzyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Caprylyl Glycol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Paraffinum Liquidum/Mineral Oil, Geraniol, Acrylates Copolymer, Sorbitan Oleate, Coriandrum Sativum Seed Oil/Coriander Seed Oil, Citric Acid, Citral, Citronellol, Glycine Soja Oil/Soybean Oil, Parfum
Again - I put this product only on my hair, I've avoided the scalp. The smell is amazing. This product is very liquidy and it contains a pipette - I love pipettes in products. Again, the smell is amazing and it's easy to apply this product. My hair got softer after using this essence, they are also stronger but somehow I feel like it makes my hair easier to brush. The application is a little bit weird because I've never had a product like this.
Overall
My feelings on this series are mixed - I feel like the whole "nature" in these products is nothing else but a "marketing gimmick" although the main base for these products is natural ingredients like coriander seed oil, soybean oil and coconut oil. I really liked the conditioner and the essence but shampoo is not my thing. I have to admit that I want to try other versions - besides shampoos, I'll stick to some pharmacy/special shampoos instead of checking other ones.
I hope you've liked this short review. Let me know if you've tried these products and which one of the botanicals series seems to be the best for you.

Unfortunately, many "natural" products in the market are just not natural at all... I don't even know how can companies just write whatever they want on the packaging and deceive their customers like that. But I'm glad you enjoyed the conditioner! :)

ReplyDeleteInteresting review!

Szkoda, że szampon się nie spisał.
ReplyDeleteGlad to know your opinion about it! To be honest I'm trying to avoid shampoos with too many "bad" ingredientes. I'm still trying to find the one!

I personally prefer botanical products. They're not only safer, they're also environment friendly.
ReplyDeleteThis is such an interesting topic, thanks for sharing these products :)
ReplyDeleteWell this frequently happens says natural but they are just onw or two natural ingredents inside the product. Thanks for your honest review
