There are two things that made Asian Beauty popular - sheet masks and Galactomyces. They are amazing on their own but what if you combine them together? Then you'll get secretKey Starting Treatment Essential Mask Sheet a mask which I know quite well since I tried the previous version before. What has changed in secretKey Starting Treatment Essential Mask Sheet formula?
Secret Key
Secret Key is a South Korean cosmetic brand which you might know for the whole Galactomyces collection especially Starting Treatment Essence. The brand was launched in 2006 and the secret key to the success of this brand is making products effective and affordable. Lots of bloggers swear by Starting Treatment Essence, I haven't tried the essence yet but I know a bit more about sheet masks.
Does design matter if it's a sheet mask?
It's always hard for me to describe the design of the sheet mask. SecretKey Starting Treatment Essential Mask Sheet has one thing that might not be necessary - transparent packaging with a delicate design that makes it possible to see the mask and how much of the essence is in the inside. From what I found this mask is made out of a cotton blend - unfortunately, I can't tell that by looking at the ingredients.
New vs old
The thing is that Secret Key Starting Treatment Essential Mask Sheet is not a new product - I remember the old formula of this mask and I always save some old opinions even if I didn't publish them on the blog in my files - that's how nerdy I am but maybe that's because I'm allergic and I like to know how my skin and body reacts to skincare and food. I want to give you a small comparison between ingredients and how does it work but let's focus on what this mask does. According to the brand, Secret Key Starting Treatment Essential Mask Sheet is a brightening and moisturizing mask. It should increase skin elasticity and improve the wrinkles as well as moderate the sebum production.
SecretKey Starting Treatment Essential Mask Sheet - Ingredients
Water, Glycerin, Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, Betaine, Bifida Ferment Filtrate, Aspergillus Ferment, Saccharomyces/Potato Extract Ferment Filtrate, Saccharomyces/Rice Bran Ferment Filtrate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Tilia Cordata Flower Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Carbomer, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Triethanolamine, Disodium EDTA, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol
The ingredients are full of ferments but let's dig a bit deeper to learn more about this mask. Water is usually a base of the skincare product then we've got a Glycerin - a moisturizer. The key product of Starting Treatment series is Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate. This mask contains 40,000 PPM of Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, a fermented yeast that is recommended for wrinkles and acne. The only thing I want to mention is that Galactomyces just like Saccharomyces/Rice Bran Ferment Filtrate is not good for fungal acne. Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice is a soothing ingredient that can help you with wounds and skin healing process. Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract can have a positive effect on acne prone skin, it's an antibacterial and antiseptic ingredient. There's also an ingredient which we call a Roman Chamomile that is recommended to use near eye area - Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, it's another soothing ingredient on the list, it's especially good for sensitive skin and it works for all skin types. If you're an owner of acne prone skin then Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract is probably well known to you because it does not only remove bacteria from the skin but it also regenerates the skin after UV exposure. It's really helpful if it comes to pore care. But Witch Hazel is not the only ingredient that helps to regenerate the skin after the UV exposure - Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract is an antioxidant that does lots of good work on oily and mature skin. Obviously, it would be too ideal if we would end up here, there are some ingredients which some people prefer to avoid - Triethanolamine might be comedogenic, Disodium EDTA, Methylparaben and Phenoxyethanol - personally, I don't focus a lot of them since I believe in regulations - at least skincare have them, supplements don't.
But how different is the current version than the older one? Let's look, some of the ingredients are the same.
Previous version ingredients:
Water, Glycerin, Galactomyces ferment filtrate, Betaine, Bifida Ferment Filtrate, Aspergillus Ferment, Saccharomyces/Potato Extract Ferment Filtrate, Saccharomyces/Rice Bran Ferment, Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Sage Leaf Extract, Cucumber Extract, Chamomile Extract, Linden Flower Extract, Portulaca Extract, Witch Hazel Extract, Green Tea Extract, Carbomer, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Triethanolamine, Disodium EDTA, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol
There's no difference, to be honest - it's the same product but different design. So how does it work? The design is better and I can't deny it, I even have an old photo where you can see the difference so that's the plus. I also feel like the new version contains more of the essence and I like this because the essence is really good, I had no comedogenic reaction to the product but remember that the essence in the mask is not the same as the Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence - there are some differences in ingredients. I like to save the essence for later - just use a small packaging with a pipette and save it for later - you can use it just like a normal essence during the next routine. The mask is well soaked and it can't get dry easily so I like to put it on my face for 15-20 minutes and then on my neck or chest for another 10 minutes since it still has lots of essences. The size is not bad - it's not ideal because it's bit too large but I can simply make it work on my face - size is a very individual thing so I don't expect it to be ideal, all that matters to me is if it works at all since some masks are impossible to wear but don't worry this one is actually good. The blend is delicate and the scent is not intensive - you can easily spend 20 minutes with this mask on. Does it brighten the skin? I think it does, it's hard to say how does the mask work if you use it regularly but the face after this mask looks fresh and bright, it's also hydrated and soft. I had no allergic or comedogenic reaction but it's a very personal thing, same with redness - all the inflammations on my skin looked less irritated and the mask itself was a good addition to my skincare. I cannot tell you how about skin elasticity and wrinkles because to see how does the product work on a skin that needs elasticity and wrinkle improvement you need more time. In general, I still like this mask and I feel like small changes made the product even more attractive.
The price of this precious sheet mask
How much does this mask cost? You can get 10 secretKey Starting Treatment Essential Mask Sheets for $23,60 on Jolse, at the moment when I was writing this review the price was discounted and 10 sheets cost $18.88 so it's always good to check Jolse since they regularly have some promotions - I also upload you on them on my blog.
