Cleansing balm or cleansing oil? Which one is better? Cleansing with oils started to be more common - even professional brands for estheticians, release oil cleansers now. I'm more a cleansing balm person because the balm is better for facial massage. Heimish All Clean Balm is the most popular K-beauty cleansing balm in western countries right next to Banila Co Clean It Zero line. What's behind the popularity of this balm? How to massage your face while cleansing?
About Heimish
Heimish is quite a young brand. The brand's history started in 2016. I'm surprised how much the brand grew in just three years. Right now Heimish offers moisturizer, mask, eye palettes, lip products, eye patches and more. Still, the brand is most known for the cleansing line.
Do I need a cleansing balm?
The cleansing balm is nothing else than an alternative to a cleansing oil. It's a part of the double cleansing method, and it helps to remove your makeup. The reason why I love cleansing balms is simple. You can massage your face while removing all the tiny bits of makeup from your face. Add some water to get the milk texture, and we are ready for the next step, aka water cleanser.
Heimish All Clean Balm - Design & Packaging
The design of All Clean Balm fits the rose and cooper aesthetic. The product itself looks quite minimalistic, but the box has a pleasing aesthetic. Inside the jar, you can find a lid. It's an ideal place to put the spatula that comes with the product. I have a problem with this element - it's hard to open the lid with wet hands.
Heimish All Clean Balm - Texture & Scent
The texture is like wax, but I don't mean wax which you use to remove hair but more like beeswax or lanolin. It's like plasticine with an oily residue. When you add a bit of water, the texture will turn into milk. The scent reminds me of herbs. Sadly, I find all cleansing balm smells bit annoying after you use them sometimes like 2 or 3 weeks - like algae or water hints.
Heimish All Clean Balm - Ingredients
Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Polyethylene, PEG-8 Isostearate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Fruit Extract, Freesia Refracta Extract, Iris Versicolor Extract, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Extract, Lilium Tigrinum Extract, Leontopodium Alpinum Extract, Nelumbium Speciosum Flower Extract, Narcissus Pseudo-Narcissus (Daffodil) Flower Extract, Rose Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Amyris Balsamifera Bark Oil, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Juniperus Mexicana Oil, Boswellia Carterii Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, 1, 2-Hexanediol
Let's start with the fact that Heimish All Clean Balm is full of emollients. Ethylhexyl Palmitate is an emollient and the source of this ingredient can be palm oil. Cetyl Ethylhexanoate is also an emollient, it's oily, and it makes the product easier to spread. PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate - not a surprise, another emollient and emulsifier. And nope, it's not bad for your skin. Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter shouldn't surprise you. Shea butter is a rich in antioxidants emollient. This natural oil works for almost all skin types, and it's a good moisturizer. Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract is a coconut fruit extract with hydrating and moisturizing properties. It's an emollient rich in fatty acids. Iris Versicolor Extract or Blue Flag is an emollient. It's not blue, for me, it looks purple but neverminds this detail. Polyethylene is a different ingredient. PE is a waxy thickener.
Now let's focus on extracts because Heimish is full of them. Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Fruit Extract is a lime extract and a source of ascorbic acid. In skincare, brands use it as an antioxidant. Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Extract is a soothing extract. Besides extract, we can find here many oils. I assume Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil is a perfuming oil in this case because the scent of the cleansing balm is herbal. Another fundamental oil we have to mention is Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil. If you've got acne-prone skin, then you probably know this oil well. Tea Tree Oil has antibacterial and antiseptic properties.
How do I massage my face during the cleansing?
I wrote before about using the product for facial massage. How do I do it? Facial massage I do on my face is a bit different than the procedures I do at work. It's very hard to show you massage on photos and I work on posting a video once but here are some tips.
Try to do all the movements on your skin upwards. Circular motion or piano motion (tapping) is also good. Start with neck, jawline, chin, around the lips, cheeks, nose, eye area, forehead and end up with couple movements from the neck to the forehead and around the shape of your face.
How does Heimish All Clean Balm work?
I used many different cleansing balms - Kbeauty brands and Western versions. Some of you might be surprised, why it took you so long to test this cleansing balm? The reason is simple - I tried a sample before and somehow I felt like I'm not sure about the scent. The scent was a mystery for me because it's herbal but at the same, it doesn't remind me of anything. The texture looks quite hard at the first look but scooping a tiny part of it is easy. All you have to do is to scoop a bit of All Clean Balm and apply it on the wet skin, massage it onto your skin and remove with water. Sounds easy? Cleansing balms are ideal to remove makeup especially stubborn waterproof mascaras. The texture is easy to spread and it melts well on the skin - it's important for me since some balms can't melt in 100% and I hate feeling the bits of unmelted balm on my face. It didn't clog me but it removes my makeup well. The packaging looks minimalistic but the inner lid seems to be problematic - I can't open it with my wet hands. Some people say that this oil might make your eyes feel bit foggy, I never had this problem but I agree - it can happen. I always use a water-based cleanser after cleansing balm unless my skin is very dry. All skin types should enjoy this product but if your skin is sensitive to oils and natural extract then patch test first. I feel like Heimish should make the 2nd version of a cleansing balm just like they did with a cleansing foam.
Heimish All Clean Green Foam
I couldn't stop myself from adding a different product to this review. It's a water-based cleanser made by the same brand and I added this product to my routine to remove the residue left by the cleansing balm. I bought this Heimish All Clean Green Foam in a different store than Meekah, but Meekah also sells it.
Water, Potassium Laureth Phosphate, Glycerin, Lauryl Hydroxysultaine, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Quillaja Saponaria Bark Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water, Potassium Cocoyl Glutamate, Citric Acid, Coco-Glucoside, Sodium Chloride, Caprylyl Glycol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Tromethamine, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Disodium EDTA
Heimish cleansing foam has 2 versions, I got the green one because it's cheaper than cult famous Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Cleansing Gel and at the same time it has the same pH (5,5) and better ingredients than COSRX. Still, COSRX is one of the foams I can recommend. At first, I thought it's a green clay cleanser since some people promote it as a clay cleanser. The truth is that there's no clay in it but it's still a great product. What do we get inside? Centella Asiatica Extract - an ingredient that speeds up the healing process and Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water which is a soothing ingredient. Together with All Clean Balm, they make a great duet for acne-prone skin and teenager skin.
The price
Heimish All Clean Balm is an affordable cleansing balm. It costs €20 at The Meekah for 100 ml. It's my 3rd month with this balm and I'm not even in the middle of the box. Is it worth it? That's for you to decide.
Overall, Heimish cleanser surprised me a lot. It's not a flawless cleanser but it's an interesting option. Have you ever tried any cleansing balm?
