Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Mint Choco

Laneige this year has many great releases. Cica Sleeping Mask, Cream Skin series and they are all very successful. There's only one lip must-have in the entire world which you need in your stash! Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Mint Choco is a new version of a best selling Laneige mask.

About Laneige

2019 is the year of Laneige - Cream Skin series, new products in Water Bank series, Laneige in Europe, Glow Makeup Serum and now Cica Mask! Laneige as a brand is 25 this year! The history of Laneige starts in 1994 since then this South Korean beauty brand grew a lot. The owner of this company is Amore Pacific. Name Laneige comes from French "La Neige" which means snow. Laneige focuses on water and technology. This brand knows how to make your skin hydrated while fighting with other skin problems, but it's not only about skincare! The Two-Tone Bar Lipstick used by actress Song Hye-Kyo in a K-drama Descendants of The Sun sold out quickly. I remember Two Toner Bar Lipstick better from Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo with Lee Sung-Kyung. Both actresses made an appearance in Laneige commercials. I feel like this brand is a dream of every teenager because it's quite an affordable brand with sweet but not too sugary packaging. It's like a transition between Etude House and Sulwhasoo if Etude House is a teenage girl and Sulwhasoo is a mature lady.

Lip Sleeping Mask

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is a cult product. It's an overnight mask with moisturizing, smoothing and soothing effect. I guess the product got released in 2015 because the first ingredient analysis on Cosdna was in the year 2015. A year before - in 2014, Laneige recommended using Water Sleeping Pack Ex with a tissue as a mask. The next step was Water Bank Moisture Cream Ex application on the lip and lip balm. Currently, you can buy 1 to 6 different flavours - some masks like Mint Choco and Sweet Candy are available in the US as limited editions. When I made this post, there was no information on Sweet Candy Lip Mask released in South Korea, Asia or Europe as a Holiday 2019 special. There are some differences like Mint Choco being a regular mask in Korea while Vanilla one is no longer in the sale. There's one cool thing about Laneige if you ever visit Laneige flagship store in Myeongdong, you can reserve service to make your lip mask. "My Delicious Therapy" is the name of the service, you can choose the flavour of the product such as Bergamot, Cherry Blossom, Black Tea, Lemon, Rosemary and many other types. You can also choose the packaging and decorate it. It's a good idea for a present or when you plan to travel to Seoul. Laneige Lip sleeping mask focus on Moisture Wrap Technology and Berry Mix Complex.

Moisture Wrap Technology

Laneige Moisture Wrap Technology locks the moisture into your lips to make them plump and soft. The main ingredient here is beta-glucan, and the main task is to secure the water, minerals and active ingredients in your lips.

Berry Mix Complex

Berry Mix Complex is a complex of ingredients rich in Vitamin C. I think that we all know what Ascorbic Acid is doing to our skin, but what about lips? Vitamin C is an antioxidant, but according to Laneige, Berry Mix Complex softens the lips.

Packaging

Laneige mask always comes in a small box. This time the carton has a charming turquoise/mint shade with delicate details. Inside the box, you can see a manual in Korean, English and Chinese. There's also a small sachet with a lip brush and the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask itself. Lip brush A small sachet is the most exciting part of this mask. I'm not joking! A tiny silicone brush looks like a flower petal. It helps a lot with the application.

Texture

Some people call Laneige Lip Mask an expensive Vaseline. I do not agree with this opinion. Vaseline is thicker, and it feels like sticky fat while Laneige is smooth, sticky, but it doesn't remind me of cheese pull as Vaseline does. The blue shade looks very intensive in the box but once you put the formula on your lips - it's not that visible. It acts as a lip gloss. Maybe your lips will look bit frosty, but only if you use too much formula at once.

Scent

It's hard to say if this mask smells like mint or if it's a mint choco. I can detect a mint scent. It's not a mint toothpaste scent, but fresh and more natural mint. The second moment I sniff this lip mask, I can smell the sweet scent that reminds me of one of my favourite desserts - After Eight Thin Mints which is chocolate with mint filling.

Some people say that Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is nothing else, but a vaseline with a flavour. Let me prove how much this thinking is wrong. All Laneige Lip Sleeping Masks have same emollients like Hydrogenated Polyisobutene is a synthetic substitute for Squalane. It's an emollient, that makes your lips soft and smooth. Usually, in the beauty industry, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene is used as a base for lip balms. Diisostearyl Malate is also an emollient. The reason why people think of this lip mask as a vaseline is Microcrystalline Wax/Cera Microcristallina/Cire Microcristalline. Brands are using Microcrystalline Wax as an alternative to Petroleum Jelly. Both substances are obtained from Petroleum, and some people are scared because of the source of the ingredients. We know that there's nothing to be scared of because substances found in beauty products have strict norms and it's a purified component. Actually, for some medical conditions, Petroleum Jelly is one of not many treatments that doesn't irritate the skin. I got lots of problems with atopic dermatitis and hair follicles, one of the methods I use is to put Petroleum Jelly on my skin when the condition of my skin during the winter gets worse. I don't use it all the time, but I wanted to give you an example - so yes, Petroleum Jelly is used in case of atopic dermatitis, eczema and other skin diseases. Microcrystalline Wax is an occlusive and a thickener.

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter is an emollient, rich in vitamin E. Synthetic Wax is an oily emollient. Mica is a substance which I'm surprised to see because I mostly find it in powders and eyeshadows. Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter is an emollient, and it regenerates the skin. Dimethicone is another emollient, and an occlusive. Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax/Copernicia Cerifera Cera/Cire De Carnauba is an oily emollient, and an occlusive, thanks to this ingredient Lip Sleeping Mask is so effective. Lycium Chinense Fruit Extract is also known as Goji Extract - it's an antioxidant - just like Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Fruit Extract and Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry) Fruit Extract. Ascorbyl Glucoside is a form of Vitamin C. I didn't want to share with you all ingredient since it's mostly emollients and antioxidants formula. I would repeat myself all the time, and it might be boring for you, and that's not my point. Before I share the review with you, I want to check other versions to see some similarities and differences.

The ingredients of all Laneige masks are almost the same. The biggest difference is in the colourants and scent ingredients. Perfume is a general term, but you can easily find the difference in scent by your nose - Berry doesn't smell like Mint Choco.

How does the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask work?

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is not a new product for me, but the Mint Choco version is a version which I haven't tried before. The scent is so nice, it's my favourite version. It smells a bit like a mint, but the hint of chocolate is there. Mint Choco version has one important benefit, it cools down your lips. It's an effect which I can enjoy all day long, no matter if it's summer or winter. I guess during the summer you might enjoy it more. The texture isn't sticky and the application process is easy. I prefer to use a silicone brush instead of a finger. There's one thing I have to admit - I do not use this mask only as a Lip Sleeping Mask. I use it as a lip moisturizer as well! My lips are getting dry easily, usually, lipsticks and liquid lipsticks look bad on my lips. I've learned one small trick during makeup classes - apply lip balm before lipstick. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask works better than normal lip balms - just apply a thin layer of the lip mask and after 5 minutes put a bit of foundation on the lip. Next and final step is to cover the lip with a lipstick. Lips are soft and smooth after every use. To all the people who eat lip balms - if you stick your tongue to the lip mask on your lips it'll feel like toothpaste on your tongue - mint and cooling. The tiny box fits well in my bag and I usually carry a jar of Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask with me. For me, it's not only a special lip treatment but a product of everyday use. I wouldn't change it to any other product, and I'm happy to see Mint Choco version in a regular sale.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Mint Choco - Price

20g of Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Mint Choco costs $16.71 (I've checked the price on November 4th) on Jolse, the regular price is a bit less than $20 - $19.66. I still consider it to be a great price for a product, that you might have a problem to empty the entire jar. If you want to get this mask as a Holiday present for yourself or someone then I would recommend you to wait a bit since Laneige already introduced the 2019 Holiday collection called Dream Bubble Holiday Collection where you can get a lip mask set including this mask - usually Jolse has some amazing Holiday offers including sets from Laneige and other brands and I can admit - I plan to get some once the holidays series are in sale on Jolse.

Have you ever tried Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask? What's your favourite lipcare product?
