Everyone already knows the Laneige Cream Skin series, but in Europe, this series came out in Spring 2021, that's why I've decided to introduce you to one of the most popular Laneige skincare series for sensitive and dehydrated skin. Is the Laneige Cream Skin series worth the "cult series" title?
About Laneige
2019 was the year of the Laneige - Cream Skin series, new products in the Water Bank series, Laneige in Europe, Glow Makeup Serum and now Cica Mask! 2020 wasn't worse for the brand, even if the situation with getting all new releases is pretty hard. Believe me or not I had problems with getting Laneige Radian-C Cream, because I bought it only a few days before borders got closed and I have to mention - TesterKorea did a great job and offered me DHL shipping. In 2021 and 2020 Laneige released so far new lip tint, some exclusive Lip Sleeping Mask versions and if I understand well Cream Skin mixed with active ingredients like PHA, HA, Niacinamide and Peptide - I wish I could try them, but it's been a year and shipping situation is still a mess (just like the country I live in - just be honest, everyone expected that I will spill some tea about it). We also get a new Phyto-Alexin ampoule, retinol series - yes, retinol started to be popular in South Korea in 2020 and new series of cushions. Laneige is a brand with 27 years of tradition. The history of Laneige starts in 1994 since then this South Korean beauty brand grew a lot. The owner of this company is Amore Pacific. The name Laneige comes from French "La Neige" which means snow. Laneige focuses on water and technology. This brand knows how to make your skin hydrated while fighting other skin problems, but it's not only about skincare! The Two-Tone Bar Lipstick used by actress Song Hye-Kyo in a K-drama Descendants of The Sun sold out quickly. I remember Two Toner Bar Lipstick better from Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo with Lee Sung-Kyung. Both actresses made an appearance in Laneige commercials. I feel like this brand is a dream of every teenager because it's quite an affordable brand with sweet but not too sugary packaging. It's like a transition between Etude House and Sulwhasoo if Etude House is a teenage girl and Sulwhasoo is a mature lady. Last year Laneige started a collaboration with Jessica Walsh and Stefan Sagmeister on the Luminous Inside art project, Laneige also released retinol series lately.
Testing period: since March 2021
Laneige Cream Skin Milk Oil Cleanser
Although Laneige Cream Skin Milk Oil Cleanser isn't the first product from the Cream Skin series, I've decided to start from it because cleansing should be our first step in our skincare routine. I said for so long that I do not plan to buy this cleanser. Why did I get it? I went out of cleansing foam and I figured out that Laneige Cream Skin Milk Oil Cleanser has pH 5.5 aka ideal pH in cleansing foam. Let's stop right there, but it isn't a foam? Yes, I made a mistake and when I saw "milk" in the name, I thought it would be a great product for a water-based cleanser, but it's an oil-based cleanser. According to Laneige, Laneige Cream Skin Milk Oil Cleanser mixes traditional oil cleansing with skincare ingredients to provide your skin with lots of moisture. The same hydrating ingredients are in Laneige Cream Skin Refiner. This cleanser doesn't need an emulsifier to cleanse your skin without making it oily.
Laneige Cream Skin Milk Oil Cleanser - Packaging
The entire Cream Skin series has two main colours blue and white. Inside the characteristic paper box, you can see a 200ml tube with a milk oil cleanser and a separate pump. You can open the cleanser, remove protecting part and put the pump on the product to start using it.
Laneige Cream Skin Milk Oil Cleanser - Scent & Texture
The texture is creamy and it has a nice, delicate scent. I guess Laneige didn't put any artificial scent, but we will see that in the next part aka ingredients.
Laneige Cream Skin Milk Oil Cleanser - Ingredients
Water/Aqua/Eau, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Triethylhexanoin, Dipropylene Glycol, Isododecane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate, 1,2-Hexanediol, C12-14 Pareth-12, Glyceryl Stearate, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium EDTA, Propanediol, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Butylene Glycol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate, Glycerin, Inulin Lauryl Carbamate, Tocopherol
Water/Aqua/Eau is an ingredient that you can find in almost every product. Its purpose in products is easy - it's a solvent. Hydrogenated Polyisobutene is a polymer and a dry emollient. Some people like to call it a synthetic squalane. You shouldn't mistake both of these ingredients. Hydrogenated Polyisobutene is similar to squalane, people use it as a substitute, but after all, it's a synthetic substance that makes your skin smooth. Triethylhexanoin is a triglyceride and an emollient. It makes your skin feels smooth. Dipropylene Glycol is a solvent. Isododecane is a light emollient, mostly used in hair products. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is an oily emollient that leaves a protective film on the surface of the skin. It makes your skin smooth. Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate is an emulsifier. It feels like 1,2-Hexanediol is everywhere, and it's not a surprise. Even if it's a solvent, it's also a moisturizer. C12-14 Pareth-12 is an emulsifier and surfactant, it makes a weak foam. Glyceryl Stearate is an ester of Glycerin and Stearic Acid. It's an emollient and emulsifier, and you can find it in oil in water formulas. It's a superb ingredient, but in some solutions, Glyceryl Stearate is problematic for me since it feels like it clogs my skin, but just because I'm not a fan of it, it doesn't mean your skin won't like it. Every skin is different. Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate is an emulsifier, ideal for sensitive skin. Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6 is a thickener.
Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, the name says that it's related to glycerin and citric acid. It's an emulsifier and emollient. Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil is not an oil but a wax ester. It's an emollient and it is very similar to human sebum which makes it a great ingredient for the skin. Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil is an interesting ingredient which I'm sure you probably didn't hear about before or didn't care about it at all. This oil is made in 9%5-98% of fatty acids with long chains made of 20 or 22 carbon atoms. What does that mean for us? This emollient is very stable, it's a source of vitamin A and E. Xanthan Gum is a thickener and stabilizer which you can find in food and skincare. Citric Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) - a chemical exfoliant. It's derived from fruits like lemon. It's a weak acid and usually weaker AHA acids act like moisturizers. In this case, Citric Acid helps with the pH level of the formula. Caprylyl Glycol is a moisturizer and an oily emollient. It leaves a delicate, protective film on your skin. But that's not all, Caprylyl Glycol is useful when you want to keep your product free from unfriendly stuff like microbes. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative. It keeps products fresh. Disodium EDTA is a synthetic stabilizer and preservative. It helps with the viscosity of the product.
Propanediol is a solvent with moisturizing properties. Similar to Cyclohexasiloxane, Propylene Glycol is an ingredient that some people try to avoid. You're most likely to see Propanediol instead of Propylene Glycol in an organic skincare product, and the reason for this change is simple. Ecocert recommends it. Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract is an antioxidant with enormous popularity and use. You can use it as a moisturizer for both dry and oily skin or as an acne treatment due to its antibacterial properties. Maybe you fight with wrinkles, and you need support? It's an antioxidant, and it can repair your skin after the damage made by UV light (since UVA is helping your skin in aging) and free radicals. Even sensitive skin is a fan of this soothing humectant. Butylene Glycol is a moisturizer and solvent, but it's also alcohol. You see, not every alcohol in skincare is terrible. Some of them have positive effects on your skin - just like Butylene Glycol, which is a popular substance even in eco/green cosmetic products. Glyceryl Caprylate is an oily emollient and emulsifier. It derivates from plants, that's why it's Ecocert approves it. Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate is an emulsifier. Glycerin is one of the most popular humectants in skincare. There's a large number of myths around glycerin like it can clog your skin. It doesn't clog your pores, but too much glycerin can make a sticky layer on the epidermis and even make your skin dryer than before due to TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss). Still, it's an ingredient that we want to see in formulas. Inulin Lauryl Carbamate is an emulsifier. Tocopherol or Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant. It's a water-soluble ingredient. Some people think it's a natural preservative, but Tocopherol itself in formulas is not the best to preserve the product. It boosts UVB protection, and if you add Vitamin C - you'll get better effects of both vitamins.
How does Laneige Cream Skin Milk Oil Cleanser work?
First of all, Laneige Cream Skin Milk Oil Cleanser is a surprise for me - I'm surprised this series arrived in Europe, but why so late? We are always super late in comparison to the US, but that might have something in common with regulations. The product itself is very economic, I bought it by mistake but I've decided that it's going to stay with me for a while. According to Laneige, if you use waterproof makeup, you might need a pre-cleansing with makeup remover. You don't need a 2nd cleansing after Laneige Cream Skin Milk Oil Cleanser - you can go straight to your skincare, but I still like to use foam. I use waterproof mascara - can't imagine my life without it after wearing a mask all day long, and yes, this cleansing oil is not enough to fight with Missha's Waterproof Mascara, but the silicone base of your foundation is not a problem for Laneige. It has a mild scent, you almost can't feel it and a bottle which I find easy to use, even the pump is easy to open (while in some cases like Nivea, I used to fight with pumps a lot). I'm pretty sure that every cleanser would have problems with waterproof makeup, that's why I still think that Laneige is a good option with quite a fine availability - you can find it in many Sephora stores and other drugstores all around the world.
Laneige Cream Skin Refiner
Refiner was the first product from the Cream Skin series, I think I saw it first on Liah Yoo's photo (just like Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask), and it was in my stash for a while before I opened it. I started to use retinoids in November, my skin went through lots of dryness and higher sensitivity to the ingredients. During summer my skin gets even more dry that's why I've decided to open Laneige Cream Skin Refiner.
Laneige Cream Skin Refiner - Packaging
Laneige Cream Skin Refiner comes in white packaging with blue text and logo. When you open the paper packaging, you'll find a solid glass bottle with a white cap.
Laneige Cream Skin Refiner - Scent & Texture
The texture is like water but a bit thicker. It might remind you of diluted milk. The scent is creamy, but light.

How does Laneige Cream Skin Refiner work?
Laneige Cream Skin Refiner is a surprise. Laneige recently refreshed the formula and now Cream Skin has additional versions such as Cream Skin + Hyaluronic Acid, Cream Skin + Peptide, Cream Skin + PHA and Cream Skin + Niacinamide. The idea of the refreshed formula is great, but is it worth it to change something that's already perfect? Laneige Cream Skin Refiner is one of the best sellers, and I totally get it, the formula is so mild that even my oversensitive skin appreciated it. The cost is not the lowest, but this toner will be with you for quite a long time. For some people, this toner will be all they need to balance the moisture level of their skin. I have to admit that sometimes I skip essence or even ampoule while using this toner. I can't say that the change is astronomical, but it's definitely one of the Laneige products that left me with a positive impression since the only negative thing about Laneige Cream Skin Refiner in my opinion is... price.
Laneige Cream Skin Refiner Mist
Do you really need a mist? Don't get me wrong, but during the summer mists save my life, when I go to sleep I like to spray my face, neck and usually my limbs to feel a bit more refreshed. During the day, I spray the mist to feel a bit better and colder, plus as I said before my skin is dry and it gives me additional moisture. I tried Cream Skin Refiner first and then went for the mist.
Laneige Cream Skin Refiner Mist - Packaging
The packaging has the same white & blue aesthetic, but don't expect glass here, it's a plastic bottle.
Laneige Cream Skin Refiner Mist - Scent & Texture
The scent of Laneige Cream Skin Refiner Mist is similar to toner. This mist is very light, you can use it on your makeup.

How does Laneige Cream Skin Refiner Mist work?
To be honest I don't even remember when I bought the mist. I'm pretty sure I went with my friend and accidentally bought it because I just wanted to try it. The Cream Skin Pads are not available in Europe yet. Usually, we think about mists as useless products, but this one is an answer to skin dryness, especially during the summer if you drive with the air condition on or you live in a place where summer is dry and winter is humid then you'll appreciate extra moisture to your skin. I would only recommend you gently tap the moisture after your spray your face to avoid dehydration. This type of mist has small droplets which work with makeup.
Where to get Cream Skin series?
Laneige Cream Skin Milk Oil Cleanser, Laneige Cream Skin Refiner and Laneige Cream Skin Refiner Mist can be found in many places all around the world. You can order them from Stylekorean - Laneige Cream Skin Milk Oil Cleanser* costs around $23 per 200ml, Laneige Cream Skin Refiner* costs $15 per 150 ml right now, and Laneige Cream Skin Refiner Mist* costs $18 per 120 ml at the moment. You can also find them at your local Sephora - I would recommend the prices since every country has a different currency, but the prices are going to be higher than at Korean stores (remember that shipping costs from Korea might be higher than from your local store).
Overall, Laneige made a good impression on me, what do you think about the Cream Skin series? What's your favourite Laneige product?
