Belif The True Tincture Essence and Belif The True Tincture Mask

Sometimes I buy skincare with my eyes, and Belif The True Tincture series is one of the examples. I bought Belif The True Tincture Mask - Chamomile thanks to another blogger - Eros. Belif The True Tincture Essence and Belif The True Tincture Mask seems to be the ideal chamomile duo for stressed and inflamed skin, but is chamomile great for everyone?

About Belif

Belif is a South Korean skincare brand. Belif belongs to LG Household & Health Care, but the formulas are based on Napier's herbal legacy. The brand was founded in 2010, and it mixes herbs and technology. According to the brand, Belif formulas are free from synthetic dyes and fragrances, synthetic preservatives, parabens and sulfates. You won't find animal ingredients and mineral oil in Belif formulas. The brand has a few herbs which you can find in their formulas like Calendula, Licorice, Nettle, Raspberry and more. The products are based on the so-called "Napier's formulas", there are 7 different formulas based on different herbs, each formula suits a different series and skin problem. What's cool about belif is the information on the number of main ingredients on the bottle - something that I didn't catch up on at first. Lately, Avon and Belif has a collab and you can get Belif products at Avon too. Unfortunately, this collaboration is not available in my country and it's such a pity since I would love to be able to ask my friend who works at Avon to order me some belif products which I can't normally get at the store since Belif choice at Sephora's in Europe is a bit limited in comparison to the US market (not to mention Asian market).

What's the problem with chamomile?

Belif The True Tincture is based on chamomile - an ingredient which traditionally we use as an anti-inflammatory agent since it's a source of azulenes. Sadly, this ingredient has some issues as well - many people are allergic to chamomile and should avoid it. Belif has formulas for you too, but this series might not be a good choice if you're allergic to chamomile.

Belif The True Tincture Essence comes in brown glass packaging hidden in a paper box. This essence reminds me of the old pharmacy or pharmacy lab at my old med school.

Belif The True Tincture Essence is very similar to watery toner, and it smells like chamomile or herbs.

Belif The True Tincture Essence - Chamomile - Ingredients

Chamomilla Recutita is a plant that you might know from traditional medicine. It's a source of chamazulene and bisabolol. Skincare brands use Chamomilla as an anti-inflammatory agent. Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract has soothing properties, but it can cause allergic reactions. Belif uses 86% of Chamomilla in this formula. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative. It protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Its origin can be natural or synthetic - depending on the product. It protects TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and naturally occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs - natural moisturizing factors. It's practical in haircare. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it just the opposite - it protects your skin from irritation. Beta-glucan is a polysaccharide. It can come from yeast, seaweeds or fungi. It's one of the best moisturizers with soothing properties. It might help with reducing wrinkle visibility on the epidermis. Some sources say it might be an antioxidant. It's good to mix it with niacinamide, retinoids or use it after skincare treatments to heal the skin quicker. Beta-glucan leaves a film on the skin to prevent TEWL and lock the moisture inside the skin. Panthenol is a humectant. It prevents skin from TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss). Panthenol is also known as vitamin B5, and it helps with irritation. You can see it in products for atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. It can soothe the skin irritated by preservatives, scent ingredients, and chemical sunscreens. Panthenol might have a meaning for lipids in our skin and skin barrier. It speeds up the healing process. It's good to use it after sunbathing. In haircare, Panthenol has moisturizing properties. It is good to mix it with niacinamide and zinc oxide. Glycereth-26 is an ingredient related to Glycerin. It's an emollient with moisturizing properties. Centella Asiatica Extract is probably the most popular extract in skincare. It comes under a few names - Asiatic pennywort, tiger grass or Gotu kola. Centella Asiatica's roots are in Ayurveda. This extract is successful for a reason - it's a source of triterpene saponins - madecassoside and asiaticoside. Centella Asiatica Extract has anti-inflammatory properties. It speeds up the wound healing process. You can use it to treat acne since it has soothing and antibacterial properties. It boosts fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin or even help with hyaluronic acid synthesis. Centella is recommended for rosacea and cellulitis since it helps with blood microcirculation. In haircare, Centella can help with hair growth. Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract is an antioxidant. It's a source of flavonoids, saponins and tocopherol (vitamin E). Oat Kernel Extract has wide use in skincare - from soothing and anti-inflammatory properties to antioxidant properties. We use it on eczema, sensitive skin or acne. Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract can help hair and scalp care. Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract or Marigold Extract is a plant, which in Europe we use as a herbal medicine herb. It's antioxidant and astringent with anti-inflammatory properties. It relieves sunburn, itching and eczema.

Belif The True Tincture Essence

Nepeta Cataria (Catnip) Extract is an extract that your cat would probably love if you have one. In skincare, this ingredient has toning properties. Nepeta Cataria Extract can help with dandruff and hair loss. Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Leaf Extract has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It's a source of tannins. Stellaria Media (Chickweed) Extract brings to skin many valuable substances - saponins, vitamin C or flavonoids. It strengthens blood vessels in the skin and helps with pore care. It makes skin soft in touch. Saccharomyces/Imperata Cylindrica Root Ferment Extract, Saccharomyces/Viscum Album (Mistletoe) Ferment Extract and Lactobacillus/Soybean Ferment Extract are fermented ingredients. Alcohol is an immense topic in skincare. Alcohol can be good or bad for your skin, but sometimes the amount makes a poison. Alcohol, after all, is a prominent solvent. It makes active substances penetrate the skin deeper. This effect has its cost - the skin is getting a bit irritated. Some substances can be dissolved only in alcohol. This ingredient has antibacterial properties. It works as a preservative by preventing microorganisms from growth in the product. It has some awful sides too - it can dry your skin, mainly if we use it in large amounts. Sensitive skin is not a fan of this ingredient. Water hides in a cosmetic product under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. If we want to use water in skincare products, we need to make sure this water is clean and free from minerals, any microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes the majority of the content of the product. Glucosyl Hesperidin is a form of hesperidin - a flavonoid. This ingredient might remind you of medicine. In skincare, we use it as an antioxidant. It helps with blood circulation. Niacinamide is a miracle ingredient. It does lots of great work. Do you have problems with dark spots? Try Niacinamide! Acne? Niacinamide will be an ideal pick for you too! Maybe you've got issues with the skin barrier? Solve it with Niacinamide! Wrinkles? You might want to try Niacinamide as well. Sensitive skin might find Niacinamide a bit problematic when it's mixed with Vitamin C or used in the same routine as Vitamin C. I can't deny Niacinamide is a skincare treasure! Trisodium EDTA is a chelating ingredient. PEG-8 is a synthetic substance. It's a nonionic polymer. We use it as a solvent, but it has moisturizing properties. I like Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate more in skincare than as food since this ingredient is related to your least favourite candy, but a very soothing plant - Licorice! It works as an anti-inflammatory ingredient, but it has a positive meaning for acne-prone skin. In general, Licorice can brighten your skin and help with acne. I wouldn't expect a lot from Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, but I think that adding it to this formula was a great move. Sodium Hyaluronate is a salt form of a popular Natural Moisturizing Factor - Hyaluronic Acid. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil derivates from castor oil. It's a surfactant and solubilizer. Sodium Citrate regulates pH, we call substances like this a buffer. Citric acid is an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid). It's a delicate exfoliant and a buffering ingredient. Citric acid adjusts the pH of the formula. Fragrance (Parfum) is a scent composition. It can cause allergic reactions. Citral gives products a lemon scent. It can be sensitizing for the skin. Citronellol is a scent ingredient. Limonene is a scent ingredient, and it makes the product smell like lemon or orange. Limonene can enhance penetration of other substances, but at the same time, it can irritate the skin. Geraniol makes products smell like geranium. It can be sensitizing. Linalool gives a floral scent to products. It can irritate the skin.

Belif The True Tincture Essence

How does Belif The True Tincture Essence - Chamomile work?

I guess the reason why I bought this essence from Belif is the packaging. Packaging is my weakness, and this brown glass bottle looks fantastic in photos. I'm not a huge fan of chamomile, even if chamomile tea has many benefits, I'm more likely to use Centella on ginkgo when my skin gets irritated. Belif The True Tincture Essence - Chamomile is based on the patented complex - Chamomile Tincture. Even if this formula is not recommended for my combo/oily skin since the tincture line is for sensitive and dry skin, I still find it very hydrating. It won't make any magical changes on your skin, but it's great skin support if you're not allergic to chamomile. I feel like this essence is less popular than Belif Hungarian Water Essence, even if I enjoyed both, I'm more likely to use Belif The True Tincture Essence - Chamomile. It's not a total must-have or phenomenal product, and some people won't be satisfied with this product. In my opinion, it's a good product for my skin, and I might buy it as a gift for someone, even if I would be a bit scared since chamomile can be tricky.

Belif The True Tincture Mask

Belif The True Tincture Mask - Chamomile - Packaging

Unfortunately, Belif The True Tincture Mask comes in a paper box and inside you can find a standard plastic jar. I was expecting a glass solution to fit essence's aesthetic, but sometimes plastic is more eco than glass (it's not my opinion, that's what some specialists says since preparing glass for another use = lots of CO2).

Belif The True Tincture Mask

Belif The True Tincture Mask - Chamomile - Scent & Texture

The most amazing thing about Belif The True Tincture Mask is the texture - you can see chamomile petals and tiny bits of herbs in this texture. It's a gel-like texture rich in natural ingredients. The scent is herbal, you can smell chamomile in this mask.

Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract has soothing properties, but it can cause allergic reactions. In this formula, Belif uses only 10.7% of Chamomilla Recutita. Dipropylene Glycol is a solvent. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative. It protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Panthenol is a humectant. It prevents skin from TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss). It's good to use it after sunbathing. In haircare, Panthenol has moisturizing properties. It is good to mix it with niacinamide and zinc oxide. Dimethicone is a dry emollient. Some people might find clogging, but it keeps your skin moist and protect it from dehydration. It has a positive effect on the skin barrier by creating occlusion, and it helps with scars. It can also smooth your skin visually. It's also silicone that's why some people like to talk badly about Dimethicone just because of this fact, but there's no reason to be frightened. It gives your skin an occlusive film, but it doesn't suffocate your skin. We need occlusion to prevent water from TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss) - to keep the skin moist. It protects your hair from dehydration and weather, and it makes it easier to brush your hair. Belif The True Tincture Mask

Butylene Glycol is a moisturizer and solvent, but it's also alcohol. You see, not every alcohol in skincare is terrible. Some of them have positive effects on your skin - just like Butylene Glycol, which is a popular substance even in eco/green cosmetic products. Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract is an ingredient that sounds a bit off. Have you ever tried Licorice candy? It was one of the worst nightmares from my childhood, but after many years I can't imagine my life without Licorice, but in skincare. Since I was taught British English, I usually go with the word Liquorice and in this version, it sounds like a great name for rice alcohol. It's a source of flavonoids, Galabridin and Glycyrrhizin. Liquorice is a herb with a long tradition of use in herbal medicine. People believe Liquorice has antibacterial, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract in skincare can help you with pigmentation, and that's why I started to love Licorice. Is there anything better than the brightening effect? Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract is an antioxidant with enormous popularity and use. You can use it as a moisturizer for both dry and oily skin or as an acne treatment due to its antibacterial properties. Maybe you fight with wrinkles, and you need support? It's an antioxidant, and it can repair your skin after the damage made by UV light (since UVA is helping your skin in aging) and free radicals. Even sensitive skin is a fan of this soothing humectant. Scutellaria Baicalensis - we know this herb from Traditional Chinese Medicine. Skullcap Root Extract is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It can brighten your skin a bit. Scutellaria hides under the name Huang Qin, and it helps with inflammation and allergy. Polygonum Cuspidatum (Japanese Knotweed) Root Extract is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract is an astringent ingredient derived from Rosemary. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties, it can be soothing but if you're allergic to rosemary or had bad reactions to essential oils, this ingredient can be irritating. Tocopherol is an antioxidant known as Vitamin E. It's an oil-soluble vitamin that fights free radicals, makes UVB protection and natural lipid barrier stronger. It's good to mix it with vitamin C for better effects. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars. The formula has a texture so Chamomilla Recutita (Matricia) Flower (0.5%) shouldn't be a surprise. Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract is an extract derived from cocoa's seeds and bark. It can be moisturizing. Carbomer is a thickener and stabilizer. You can often see it in gel formulas. Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer is a carbomer's distant family. It works as a stabilizer and thickener. Tromethamine helps with the pH, to make sure your product has an ideal pH. Trisodium EDTA is a chelating ingredient. PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil derivates from castor oil. It's a surfactant and solubilizer. Fragrance (Parfum) is a scent composition. It can cause allergic reactions. Limonene is a scent ingredient, and it makes the product smell like lemon or orange. Limonene can enhance penetration of other substances, but at the same time, it can irritate the skin.

Belif The True Tincture Mask

How does Belif The True Tincture Mask - Chamomile work?

I bought this mask thanks to Eros. It was on sale at Sephora, and I have to admit - I fell in love. The mask is based on a patented Chamomile Tincture. This mask is recommended for dry, sensitive and normal skin types. I saw an adult with normal skin type only once in my life - it's my uni colleague, and it was surprising to see someone with neither dry nor oily skin. Her skin was balanced. My skin is a combo, even more, oily than a combo. Does Belif The True Tincture Mask - Chamomile work for oily skin? Yes, it does! For me, Belif The True Tincture Mask - Chamomile is mostly a calming mask that should work for all skin types. It's not like oily skin can't be dry. Every time I go back from uni my skin feels super dry because of the products we use - my skin is not a fan of brands we use at university. The gel texture feels very relaxing, during the summer it can lower the temperature of your skin. The texture is rich in herbal parts - mostly chamomile. Not everyone will enjoy this scent, but for me, it's a calming mask for both - mind and skin.

Belif The True Tincture Essence

How much does Belif The True Tincture Essence and Belif The True Tincture Mask cost, and where to buy these products?

I bought this duo at Sephora, but I usually buy Belif in Poland so the prices are a bit different. You can order this duo from Belif's website or check your local Sephora. In case you live in the US, Belif The True Tincture Essence is unavailable at Sephora and Belif's website, but Amazon has it for $46/75ml. Belif The True Tincture Mask costs $36/50ml. I bought both products for sale since the regular price was a bit high in my opinion.

Overall, I tried Belif before but I never made a review of this brand on Kherblog, still, I believe The True Tincture series is Belif's most interesting series so far.
