About Hyggee

Hyggee is a South Korean skincare brand. The name reminds me of the Danish word Hygge which can be translated as a feeling of wellness. The brand motto is "for us & earth", the brand is focused on easy and simple formulas. The formulas are mild for the skin - even sensitive skin should enjoy them. Hyggee is also good for the environment.

Hyggee Relief Chamomile Mask - Texture & Scent

The texture is impressive - it's like a gel mask with petals inside, that was the reason why I wanted to buy it. The scent is quite herbal.

Chamomilla Recutita is a plant that you might know from traditional medicine. It's a source of chamazulene and bisabolol. Skincare brands use Chamomilla as an anti-inflammatory agent. Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract has soothing properties, but it can cause allergic reactions. Chamomile is known as a natural herb to brighten blonde hair. Propanediol is also known as natural glycol - an alternative for propylene glycol. Propanediol is a solvent with additional moisturizing properties. It makes the texture of the product smooth to touch, and it can even improve the effectiveness of active ingredients. Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Its origin can be natural or synthetic - depending on the product. It protects TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and naturally occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs - natural moisturizing factors. It's practical in haircare. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it just the opposite - it protects your skin from irritation. Water hides in a cosmetic product under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. If we want to use water in skincare products, we need to make sure this water is clean and free from minerals, any microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative - it protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Dipropylene Glycol is a solvent with moisturizing properties. Chamomilla Recutita is a plant that you might know from traditional medicine. It's a source of chamazulene and bisabolol. Skincare brands use Chamomilla as an anti-inflammatory agent. Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Powder has soothing properties, but it can cause allergic reactions. Chamomile is known as a natural herb to brighten blonde hair. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps with the penetration of active ingredients, protects products from drying and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and make your hair stronger. Carbomer is a thickener and stabilizer. You can often see it in gel formulas. Tromethamine helps with the pH, to make sure your product has an ideal pH. Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate is a gentle surfactant. Xanthan Gum is a thickener and stabilizer which you can find in food and skincare. Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer is a moisturizer. Sodium Hyaluronate is a salt form of a popular Natural Moisturizing Factor - Hyaluronic Acid.

Centella Asiatica Extract is probably the most popular extract in skincare. It comes under a few names - Asiatic pennywort, tiger grass or Gotu kola. Centella Asiatica's roots are in Ayurveda. This extract is successful for a reason - it's a source of triterpene saponins - madecassoside and asiaticoside. Centella Asiatica Extract has anti-inflammatory properties. It speeds up the wound healing process. You can use it to treat acne since it has soothing and antibacterial properties. It boosts fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin or even helps with hyaluronic acid synthesis. Centella is recommended for rosacea and cellulitis since it helps with blood microcirculation. In haircare, Centella can help with hair growth. Portulaca Oleracea Extract is a succulent, and plant used in Korean traditional medicine. It's a source of vitamin A, C and E, omega-3 acids and calcium. Portulaca Oleracea Extract is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties. It can help speed up the wound healing that's why people with acne-prone skin, sensitive skin and PIE should look up to this ingredient in products. Beta-glucan is a polysaccharide. It can come from yeast, seaweeds or fungi. It's one of the best moisturizers with soothing properties. It might help with reducing wrinkle visibility on the epidermis. Some sources say it might be an antioxidant. It's good to mix it with niacinamide, and retinoids or use it after skincare treatments to heal the skin quicker. Beta-glucan leaves a film on the skin to prevent TEWL and lock the moisture inside the skin. Madecassoside is a bioactive part of Centella Asiatica. It's an antioxidant and can stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis to promote wound healing. It has soothing effects, and might have anti-aging properties if we combine it with vitamin C. Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract is an anti-inflammatory relative of Salicylic Acid aka BHA. White willow is a source of salicin, catechins and tannins. Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid is a low-weight humectant. It's a form of natural moisturizing factor that occurs in our skin - Hyaluronic Acid. The smaller the molecule is, the better it works. Madecassic Acid is an active compound of Centella Asiatica - a famous K-beauty ingredient. Even if Madecassic Acid is not as popular as Madecassoside, it's still a great healing ingredient. Asiatic Acid is an active compound of Centella Asiatica, and it also has powerful healing properties. Asiaticoside has its roots in Centella Asiatica, it's one of the triterpenoid saponins. It supports wound healing. Caprylyl Glycol is a moisturizer and an oily emollient. It leaves a delicate, protective film on your skin. But that's not all, Caprylyl Glycol is useful when you want to keep your product free from unfriendly stuff like microbes. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. Disodium EDTA neutralizes metal ions in the formula to keep products fresh for a longer time.

How does Hyggee Relief Chamomile Mask work?

If you expect this mask to be the best mask you've ever tried - calm down. This is not the best mask I've ever tried. Am I sad about it? No! I'm happy that this mask is good, but not phenomenal. Why? Because I find this mask ideal to calm my skin and it works amazing as a calming mask. It might not make your acne disappear in one day, it might not lift your skin and make you 10 years younger. It just proves what Hyggee is all about - good products for the skin based on natural ingredients. I love herbal masks and formulas like this during the summer - it's all I need to be honest. The gel formula is a bit cold so during a heat wave it's the best I can do. Chamomile has great properties, but some people might be allergic to this ingredient so patch test before you use it.

Overall, my review of the Hyggee Relief Chamomile Mask is short, but it's simply the best in being a good, calming mask.
