Do you miss spring? I do! Thankfully the Laneige Hello Blossom spring 2022 line can bring us back some warm cherry days! Laneige released its cult products in Cherry versions, which one would you choose? Laneige Hello Blossom Water Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom or Laneige Hello Blossom! Lip Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom
We are quite used to Japanese cosmetic companies releasing Sakura-inspired products. Suisai this year released Beauty Clear Powder Wash in a sakura version, even Western brands like French L'occitane has a Cherry Blossom line. Innisfree has the Cherry Blossom line as a regular line, but this year Nosebum Sakura Collection was a Japan-only line related to sakura blossom. Laneige wasn't that exclusive - Laneige Hello Blossom was available in South Korea, Malaysia or Singapore. Sadly, this line wasn't released in Europe, but at least we got Valentine's Day sets with limited Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask variants like Chocolate and Caramel.
About Laneige
2019 was the year of the Laneige - Cream Skin series, new products in the Water Bank series, Laneige in Europe, Glow Makeup Serum and now Cica Mask! 2021 wasn't worse for the brand - retinol series. I expect to see this series in 2022 in Europe since this series got introduced to the US market lately. Laneige is a brand with 28 years of tradition. Laneige was established in 1994. The owner of this company is Amore Pacific. The name Laneige comes from the French "La Neige", which means snow. Laneige focuses on water and technology. This brand knows how to make your skin hydrated while fighting other skin problems, but it's not only about skincare! The Two-Tone Bar Lipstick used by actress Song Hye-Kyo in the K-drama Descendants of The Sun sold out quickly. I remember Two Toner Bar Lipstick better from Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo with Lee Sung-Kyung. Both actresses made an appearance in Laneige commercials. Actress Kim Yoo-Jung is currently the face of Laneige and Radian-C Cream. It's quite an affordable brand with sweet but not too sugary packaging. The packaging makes me believe that the main targets are teens and young adults. It's like a transition between Etude House and Sulwhasoo if Etude House is a teenage girl and Sulwhasoo is a mature lady.
Laneige Hello Blossom Water Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom - Packaging
Laneige Hello Blossom Water Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom has such a cute pink and blue design. I never thought I'll say that, but it's just cute! I might hate the pink colour, but when it comes to Cherry Blossom then I will go with pink! Laneige invited artist Kang Han, according to the Laneige website artist Kang Han wanted to use her style to express cherry blossom in the most romantic way possible, and I think she nailed it! I've never heard about Kang Han before, but her art is super cute and beautiful! It's worth mentioning that Laneige tries to collaborate a lot with artists.
Inside a paper box, there's a pink jar with Laneige Hello Blossom Water Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom. There's also a spatula to make the application of the product easier.
Laneige Hello Blossom Water Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom - Texture & Scent
Laneige Hello Blossom Water Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom has a very similar texture to Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, but maybe more transparent, and gel-like. The scent of this mask does remind me of flowers and cherry blossoms. The scent is not too heavy, but you can't feel it on the skin.
Laneige Hello Blossom Water Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom - Ingredients
Water/Aqua/Eau, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Trehalose, Methyl Trimethicone, 1,2-Hexanediol, Squalane, Phenyl Trimethicone, Pca Dimethicone, Caprylyl Methicone, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate, Carbomer, Propanediol, Tromethamine, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Glyceryl Caprylate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium EDTA, Raffinose, Stearyl Behenate, Fragrance/Parfum, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Inulin Lauryl Carbamate, Tranexamic Acid, Tryptophan, Hydroxypropyl Bispalmitamide MEA, Beta-Glucan, Acorus Gramineus Extract, Limonene, Tocopherol
Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps with the penetration of active ingredients, protects products from drying and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and make your hair stronger. Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Its origin can be natural or synthetic - depending on the product. It protects TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and naturally occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs - natural moisturizing factors. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it just the opposite - it protects your skin from irritation. Trehalose is a disaccharide. We all know that sugar is awesome for the skin. What does it do? Trehalose similar to other sugars has water-binding properties. Trehalose kinda acts like NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factor). Methyl Trimethicone is a volatile silicone, a type of silicone that evaporates right after product application. It works as a solvent in the products. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative - it protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Squalane is an ingredient very similar to our sebum. Squalane and squalene sound similar, but there's a difference. Squalane has no double bonds while squalene has double bonds. What does it mean? Squalane is a more stable version of squalene. What I love about this ingredient is how well it works with all skin types, and how our skin needs it. Believe me, if your skin is irritated - go for squalane! This ingredient is usually derived from sugarcane or olives. It acts like an emollient and you need it in your life. Phenyl Trimethicone is silicone and an emollient. It improves the texture of the product and makes it easier to spread on the skin. Phenyl Trimethicone leaves a delicate film on the skin to prevent your skin from TEWL. It's easy to remove it with cleansing products. This ingredient is useful in haircare products since it makes it easier to maintain your hair. In sunscreen, it makes products more resistant to water (it makes sunscreen more waterproof).
PCA Dimethicone is a silicone. It works as occlusive and we are PCA Dimethicone in hair care products since it protects hair from temperature and makes your hair look softer. Caprylyl Methicone is an alkylmethyl silicone and emollient. It has a waxy texture, and it makes the product easier to apply. It works great with natural ingredients and pigment. It's a volatile silicone so you don't have to worry - it disappeared almost right after application. Ammonium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate/VP Copolymer is a polymer with thickening properties. Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate is a probiotic. A few years ago ferments became a thing in skincare because they are amazing for sensitive skin. Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate has soothing properties, it supports the microbiome of the skin. Carbomer is a synthetic thickener. Propanediol is also known as natural glycol - an alternative to propylene glycol. Propanediol is a solvent with additional moisturizing properties. It makes the product smooth to the touch. It can even improve the effectiveness of active ingredients. Tromethamine is a synthetic pH adjuster. Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer is a synthetic polymer and quite a large molecule. It works as a thickener and emulsion stabiliser. Glyceryl Caprylate is a natural oily emollient and emulsifier. It creates a delicate film on the surface of the skin. It has some antimicrobial properties. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. Disodium EDTA neutralizes metal ions in the formula to keep products fresh. Raffinose is a trisaccharide, and it has moisturizing properties. Stearyl Behenate is an emollient. Fragrance (Parfum) is a scent composition. It can cause allergic reactions. Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate is an oil-in-water emulsifier, suitable for vegans. Inulin Lauryl Carbamate is an emulsifier.
Tranexamic acid is an ingredient which I met through pharmacology lectures since it has wide use in healthcare. It's a solution that prevents blood loss - you can use it during heavy menstruations, nosebleeds or even patients after cardiac surgeries are recommended to use. Tranexamic Acid is a synthetic substance related to amino acids. Lately, tranexamic acid became more popular as a pigmentation medication - especially for melasma. It inhibits tyrosinase to slow down melanogenesis. This ingredient is amazing not only for people with pigmentation diseases but also for rosacea. It can be helpful with post-acne scars. Tryptophan is an amino acid. It's an antioxidant with antistatic properties, it makes hair easier to brush. It might help with the moisture of the skin and hair. Hydroxypropyl Bispalmitamide MEA is an emollient that is supposed to work similarly to ceramides. Beta-glucan is a polysaccharide. It can come from yeast, seaweed or fungi. It's one of the best humectants with soothing properties. It might help with reducing wrinkle visibility on the epidermis. Some sources say it might be an antioxidant. It's good to mix it with niacinamide and retinoids or use it after skincare treatments to heal the skin more quickly. Beta-glucan leaves a film on the skin to prevent TEWL and lock the moisture inside the skin. Acorus Gramineus Extract or Japanese sweet flag extract is a humectant. Limonene is a scent ingredient, and it makes the product smell like lemon or orange. Limonene can enhance the penetration of other substances, but at the same time, it can irritate the skin. Tocopherol is an antioxidant known as Vitamin E. It's an oil-soluble vitamin that fights free radicals and makes UVB protection and natural lipid barrier stronger. It's good to mix it with vitamin C for better effects. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars.
How does Laneige Hello Blossom Water Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom work?
I love love love Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, I enjoyed Cica Sleeping Mask as well. Hello Blossom version is similar to Water Sleeping Mask, but the texture is less creamy, and the scent is different. Before I started using this mask I didn't check the ingredients of the Hello Blossom version so I can honestly, share my experience first. The mask has a cooling formula - even if it's not a special feature of this mask, during the summertime this mask can cool down the temperature of the skin.
Laneige Hello Blossom Water Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom contains a Probiotics complex. Since Laneige belongs to Amorepacific it shouldn't be surprising that this complex is related to green tea. It's a new complex and it contains green tea lactobacillus ferment lysate. The other patent used in this product is Sleeping Microbiome.
The jar of Laneige Hello Blossom Water Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom contains 70 ml of the product with 12 months PAO (period after opening). I enjoy using this mask, it is very moisturizing and it can go along with cream or without it. The jar itself is not as cute as the paper box, but I still like it. If you're a fan of Laneige Sleeping Mask and you like scented products - this might be a choice for you. Water Sleeping Mask is Laneige's best seller so it's not a surprise brand wanted to focus on this product and release a limited version.

Laneige Hello Blossom! Lip Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom - Ingredients
Diisostearyl Malate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Phytosteryl/Isostearyl/Cetyl/Stearyl/Behenyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Polybutene, Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin), Microcrystalline Wax\Cera Microcristallina\Cire Microcristalline, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Synthetic Wax, Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer, Sucrose Tetrastearate Triacetate, Mica, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax / Candelilla Cera Hydrocarbons /Cire De Candelilla, Candelilla Wax Esters, Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter, Fragrance/Parfum, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Butylene/Ethylene/Styrene Copolymer, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax /Copernicia Cerifera Cera /Cire De Carnauba, Methicone, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Limonene, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Ascorbic Acid, Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycerin, Propanediol, BHT, Punica Granatum Fruit Juice, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Juice, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Juice
Diisostearyl Malate is an emollient, soluble in oils. Hydrogenated Polyisobutene is an emollient. It's a synthetic substitute for squalane. It leaves a delicate film on the skin, it prevents the skin from dehydration. Polybutene is a polymer. It works as a thickener. Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin) is an emollient. Microcrystalline Wax is an oily synthetic emollient. Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter is a butter obtained from seeds of the Vitellaria paradoxa tree - a tree typical for Africa. It's an emollient rich in antioxidants like vitamin E or vitamin A. It's a source of oleic acid, stearic acid and linoleic acid. Shea butter is a well-moisturizing emollient that leaves a fine film on the skin and hair to protect from dehydration. It has soothing properties, and it might provide sun protection around SPF 2-4 (still, use proper sun-protecting agents instead of oils and butter for your safety). This ingredient is an excellent choice for dry skin and psoriasis. Shea butter hydrates hair and helps them look shinier. It's good to choose certified shea butter from a trusted source. Synthetic Wax is a synthetic substance that is supposed to work as natural wax. It's an emollient that prevents TEWL (transepidermal water loss). Sucrose Tetrastearate Triacetate is an emulsifier. Mica is a mineral, and it works as a pigment. It reflects light. There's a controversy around this ingredient - mining this ingredient isn't always going along with proper work conditions. Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax / Candelilla Cera Hydrocarbons /Cire De Candelilla is a shiny wax popular in lip products, a substitute for beeswax. An oily emollient and emulsifier. Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter is an emollient and natural vegetable fat. It's a source of lauric acid, oleic acid, myristic acid, and vitamins A and E. It strengthens skin protection and prevents skin from environmental damage (UV exposure, wind, low temperature, etc). It's good for sensitive skin, it might be helpful with stretch marks. Fragrance (Parfum) is a scent composition. It can cause allergic reactions. Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891) is a sunscreen agent, but in this case, it probably works as a pigment. Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate is an emulsifier. Glyceryl Caprylate is a natural oily emollient and emulsifier. It creates a delicate film on the surface of the skin. It has some antimicrobial properties.
Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax /Copernicia Cerifera Cera /Cire De Carnauba is an oily emollient that leaves a protective film on the surface of the skin. This vegetable wax is better for lip products than skin since it can be too comedogenic. Methicone is silicone and a dry emollient. Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate is a water-in-oil emulsifier. Limonene is a scent ingredient, and it makes the product smell like lemon or orange. Limonene can enhance the penetration of other substances, but at the same time, it can irritate the skin. Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil is an oily emollient, and a source of fatty acids like lauric acid, myristic acid or palmitic acid. It leaves a film on the surface of the skin. It works better on dry skin than on acne-prone skin. In hair care, coconut oil protects hair from water loss, and prevents damage and split ends. Coconut oil has very weak UV protection properties, but it doesn't mean that you can use it instead of sunscreen. Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate is a preservative with antioxidant properties. Yellow 5 Lake or CI 19140 also known as Tartrazine is a synthetic yellow pigment. It's not common to have an allergy to this ingredient, but sensitivity to Tartrazine is possible. Ascorbic Acid is an antioxidant that stimulates collagen (type I and III) and elastin production. It helps with pigmentation - both PIE & PIH. It is better to use vitamin C during the morning routine because it boosts the efficiency of sunscreen. Ascorbic Acid can fix what free radicals destroy. Brands recommend mixing ascorbic acid with ferulic acid and vitamin E. Vitamin C has a cardinal role in strengthening the blood vessels and boosting wound healing. Ascorbic Acid in a concentration above 10% might be too irritative for sensitive skin or rosacea - even some acne-prone skin might not enjoy it. Red 7 Lake or CI 15850 is a synthetic red pigment.
Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Propanediol is also known as natural glycol - an alternative to propylene glycol. Propanediol is a solvent with additional moisturizing properties. It makes the product smooth to the touch. It can even improve the effectiveness of active ingredients. BHT or Butylated Hydroxy Toluene is quite a controversial ingredient. This synthetic substance is an antioxidant and preservative - in skincare up to 0,1% in a product. You don't have to be scared of this preservative. According to CIR (Cosmetic Ingredient Review), it's a safe ingredient. Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Fruit Juice is a source of linoleic acid and punicic acid. It's also a source of polyphenols. Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Fruit Juice is an antioxidant that fights free radical damage. Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Juice or Red Raspberry Juice is an astringent. Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Juice is a source of flavonoids, polyphenols, resveratrol, vitamin C and many minerals. It's an antioxidant with moisturizing properties. It can help in exfoliating dead skin cells off the skin and balance sebum production.
How does Laneige Hello Blossom! Lip Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom work?
I'm not a fan of super shiny lip products, but Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is a product which I don't only use during the night routine, I even use it during the day. I love this mask! It works so well on my lips. I usually have super dry and crispy lips but it's a product that adds so much hydration to my lips. I'm aware not everyone likes it and some people think it's an overpriced lip product, but hey everyone is different, for example, I hate super popular essence just because I don't like its scent.
The Laneige Hello Blossom! Lip Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom looks very similar to the berry mask aka the OG mask from Laneige, but I feel like some masks like the Caramel mask is way heavier than the Cherry Blossom version. I think it's a great series, but let's see how it compares to the regular version.

Are the ingredients in the traditional Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask different from those in Laneige Hello Blossom Lip Sleeping Mask EX Cherry Blossom? Which one is more worth a try? Let's see and compare both masks.

The change between these two masks is visible. Both masks are based on antioxidant-rich Berry Fruit Complex. Still, Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask seems to have more ingredients like Beta-Glucan, Sodium Hyaluronate or Ascorbyl Glucoside instead of Ascorbic Acid. There's also a tiny difference between the pigments used in both products.
