Vitamin C has many benefits for the skin, but have you ever thought about mixing Vitamin C with Hanbang? 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum is a perfect combination of both, but the inspiration comes straight from the vinegar. 107 created a cruelty-free serum for all skin types to boost your microbiome. Is 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum your new favourite serum?
This post was made in collaboration with Bemused Korea. Still, this post shows my personal opinion on 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum.
About 107 Beauty
Oneoseven Beauty or 107 Beauty is a K-beauty brand. According to the 107 beauty website, the brand was created by Chloe Kwak and Seyong Shin in 2015. The main ingredient in 107 Beauty products is Vinegar. I could end on simple basics, but there are a few things we need to mention about why 107 Beauty is a brand you should check. First of all, Chloe - the co-founder of 107 is a Certified National Aesthetician in Korea. As an aesthetician myself, I know how much aestheticians aren't appreciated, but you would be surprised how big knowledge aestheticians have - from anatomy to cosmetic chemistry. The inspiration behind 107 was Chloe's own experience - eczema and hyper-sensitive skin. The co-owner of 107 - Seyong shared with Chloe a regimen based on Hanega's vinegar. This regimen created by Seyong's mother helped Chloe. That's the story behind 107.
I got a few friends that use vinegar on daily basis. If you're dealing with diabetes, PCOS or fatigue or even skin problems, I recommend you a book called Glucose Revolution by Jessie Inchauspé. It's not an ad, but I mention it because Jessie encourages people with diabetes and pre-diabetes to add vinegar to their routine.
Vinegar for the skin
Since this post is based on 107 beauty, I want to share with you what 107 beauty says about Vinegar since this brand seems to know its Vinegar the best. Vinegar is a traditional Asian remedy, 107 beauty uses handcrafted Vinegar, and the formula is based on an old traditional recipe - it's a secret recipe passed down for 36 generations - it's an impressive number. 107 beauty's Vinegar is fermented and aged for 30 years before it can be used. In 107 Beauty's skincare line all products contain 7-years old Vinegar, but the Soseo line is an exception. Since it's a fermented ingredient, we can expect it works great for your microbiome and guts - yes, 107 beauty sells Vinegar too! It's a source of amino acids, AHA and acetic acid - an antibacterial ingredient. Vinegar in 107 beauty formulas isn't normal, it's a high-quality ingredient based on natural ingredients - three different types of rice, Asian herbs and bedrock water from Ganghwa Island.
What Soseo means?
107 is a brand that mixes technology with tradition, so it shouldn't surprise that we should search for the meaning of Soseo in Korean folklore. I'm not joking, to understand Soseo I had to use 107's website and Encyclopedia of Korean Seasonal Customs: Encyclopedia of Korean Folklore and Traditional Culture Vol. 1 released by the National Folk Museum of Korea. Soseo is a day of minor heat or little heat - depending on the translation. It's the 11th of 24 solar terms and it's related to July when the sun's celestial longitude meets 105 degrees. It's like a sign of the beginning of the season, but it's also a time in which farmers are sowing and harvesting crops. It's also a day to prepare for vinegar fermentation. Soseo is 107's new skincare line, while regular wine is focused on 7 years aged vinegar, Soseo line is based on Hanega's 10 years aged premium black vinegar.
What's Hanbang?
Before we start, we need to understand what Hanbang stands for. Hanbang is a term for Traditional Korean Medicine. You can be a bit shocked since some ingredients used in Traditional Korean Medicine are similar to Traditional Chinese Medicine but that shouldn't surprise you since there are some herbs which you can find all around the world used to cure the illness. But Hanbang is not only about skincare but health in general. It's about using natural ingredients to help your body. Nowadays if it comes to Hanbang skincare it's usually about mixing tradition with technology but still, it's all about antioxidants and the power of natural ingredients. Lots of luxurious brands are based on traditional herbal medicine. You have to believe that traditional medicine has a strong meaning in the culture - just look at universities in Korea, and you can find lots of programs related to traditional medicine.
107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum - Packaging
107 is a brand that takes care of every tiny detail so it's not a surprise why 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum comes in a box that is suitable for recycling. It has a powdery pink shade that fits other 107 products. Inside the box, you can see a dark, glass bottle of 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum. Usually, brands choose dark glass to prevent quick ascorbic acid oxidation. Ascorbic Acid is sensitive to light and temperature. In this case, dark glass wasn't necessary. 107 uses 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid in 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum formula. Still, I think it's a good choice since it looks aesthetic and kinda reminds me of vinegar. The pipette is useful, it works smoothly.
107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum - Texture & Scent
I have to admit that describing 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum scent is tricky. Maybe it's vinegar or anise? It's an incredible scent and I might not be a huge fan, but I kinda enjoy it. After using this serum for a few days I started to get used to the scent. The texture is a bit oily, but it's another vitamin C serum that works with my makeup. It doesn't leave an oily film on the skin.

Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Its origin can be natural or synthetic - depending on the product. It protects TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and naturally occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs - natural moisturizing factors. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it just the opposite - it protects your skin from irritation. Propanediol is also known as natural glycol - an alternative to propylene glycol. Propanediol is a solvent with additional moisturizing properties. It makes the product smooth to the touch. It can even improve the effectiveness of active ingredients. 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid or Ethyl Ascorbic Acid is a form of Vitamin C. This form is very stable in both oil and water. It's an antioxidant and skin-brightening ingredient. It stimulates collagen (type I and III) and elastin production. 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid helps with PIE & PIH pigmentation - this form shows the best effects on pigmentation and post-UV-exposure skin discolouration. It's better to use Vitamin C during the morning routine because it boosts the efficiency of sunscreen. We consider 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid is the most stable form of vitamin C in skin care, and this version is suitable for sensitive skin. It's good to mix it with niacinamide and vitamin E. This form has weak points - it's the most expensive form of vitamin C. Lactobacillus Ferment is a probiotic. A few years ago ferments became a thing in skincare because they are amazing for sensitive skin. Lactobacillus Ferment has soothing properties, it supports the microbiome of the skin. Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps with the penetration of active ingredients, protects products from drying and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and make your hair stronger. Arbutin is a skin brightening and depigmenting agent. The source of this substance is bearberry and similar plants. Arbutin is an antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibitor - that's why we use it to fight pigmentation or post-acne discolouration. It's good to mix arbutin with kojic acid and niacinamide. Arbutin is related to hydroquinone. It might cause some allergic reactions. Vinegar is an ingredient that reminds me more of culinary use or even diet than skincare, but some people use vinegar in their hair care. It's a source of acetic acid. Panax Ginseng Root Extract is a source of ginsenosides, many vitamins and minerals. Ginseng is a hanbang ingredient, a traditional medicine ingredient. It improves blood circulation. Ginseng Root Extract has antioxidant properties, it also works as an emollient. If you deal with cellulite you might want to add products with this extract to your routine. Triticum Aestivum (Wheat) Seed Extract is a source of vitamin E. It's a nourishing ingredient that might be sensitizing if you're allergic to gluten or have coeliac disease you might want to be careful with this one.
Tocopherol is an antioxidant known as Vitamin E. It's an oil-soluble vitamin that fights free radicals and makes UVB protection and natural lipid barrier stronger. It's good to mix it with vitamin C for better effects. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars. Fructooligosaccharides are prebiotics. They nourish the skin and help the microbiome. Streptococcus Thermophilus Ferment is a probiotic obtained during the fermentation of gram-positive bacteria. It has moisturizing properties. Lactococcus Ferment is a probiotic obtained from Gram-positive bacteria. It might sound scary, but probiotics in products are very useful - not only in the beauty industry. It supports your natural skin microbiome. Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract is probably the most popular extract in skincare. It comes under a few names - Asiatic pennywort, tiger grass or Gotu kola. Centella Asiatica's roots are in Ayurveda. This extract is successful because it's a source of triterpene saponins - madecassoside and asiaticoside. Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract has anti-inflammatory properties. It speeds up the wound-healing process. You can use it to treat acne since it has soothing and antibacterial properties. It boosts fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin or even helps with hyaluronic acid synthesis. Centella is recommended for rosacea and cellulitis since it helps with blood microcirculation. In hair care, Centella can help with hair growth. Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract is an antioxidant - it fights free radicals and fixes the damage. Green tea is a source of many positive skin substances such as catechins (EGCG, EGC, EC, CG), flavonoids, amino acids, vitamin C, and minerals. It works for all skin types. Since it has antibacterial properties, many products for young, acne-prone skin contain this ingredient. It has soothing properties, and it's good to use it along with sunscreen to boost the protection of your skin. Bifida Ferment Lysate is a probiotic and a product of the fermentation process. Bifida Ferment Lysate strengthens the skin and its natural microbiome. Bifida ferment lysate can make sensitive skin secure and less susceptible to the negative influence of external factors. This ingredient can help fix the damage caused by UV radiation or fix damaged DNA. Xylitol is a sugar with humectant properties. Rhamnose is a sweet humectant. It's a common ingredient in anti-aging products. It's derived from birch or bamboo. Rhamnose is a deoxy sugar with humectant properties. It's an antioxidant that fights free radicals. Perilla Frutescens Extract is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties. It's a source of perillic acid and beta-carotene. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 - a vitamin soluble in water. It helps with problems like wrinkles, acne, skin texture, and enlarged pores and promotes collagen synthesis. Niacinamide makes the skin barrier stronger. It might be handy in cellulite treatments. Do you want to fight pigmentation or uneven skin? Try to mix niacinamide with Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Vitamin C, Tranexamic Acid or Retinol. Inulin is prebiotic, it makes your skin stronger and prevents TEWL (transepidermal water loss).
Sodium Hyaluronate or sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. It's a form of hyaluronic acid and naturally occurs in the skin. Sodium Hyaluronate has strong water-binding properties. Sodium hyaluronate combined with elastin and collagen is like a scaffolding for the skin. It has hydrating properties and leaves a hydrating film on the skin, but sodium hyaluronate prevents skincare products from drying. Panthenol is a humectant. It prevents skin from TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss). Panthenol is also known as vitamin B5, and it helps with inflammation. Panthenol can soothe the skin irritated by preservatives, scent ingredients, and chemical sunscreens - it might have a meaning for lipids in our skin and skin barrier. It speeds up the healing process. It's good to use it after sunbathing. In hair care, Panthenol has moisturizing properties. If you have problems detangling your hair or hair growth go for Panthenol. It is good to mix it with niacinamide and zinc oxide. You can see it in products for atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer as the name says is related to Sodium Hyaluronate. It's a strong water-binding moisturizer, it hydrates your skin and prevents TEWL. Potassium Hyaluronate is a hydrophilic ingredient that prevents TEWL (transepidermal water loss). It's a synthetic humectant. Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate is a big molecule related to hyaluronic acid. It leaves a moisturizing film on the surface of the skin. Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate or miniHA is a Sodium Hyaluronate in a very low molecule (below 500 Da). This ingredient is a cousin of Hyaluronic Acid, it can have positive effects on the moisture of the skin since the small molecule can easily penetrate the skin. The problem is in the size of the molecule - smaller molecules can be better, but there's also a risk that they might cause inflammation. Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid is a low-weight humectant. We have to remember that not every molecule can get through the skin surface and lower molecule HA can penetrate the skin deeper and bring moisture inside the skin. It's a natural polymer that binds water in the skin to prevent TEWL (transepidermal water loss). Hyaluronic Acid is an ingredient loved by everyone! Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the skin. It's a glycosaminoglycan or GAG. What does that mean? It's a long polysaccharide - nothing else than sugar, and we all know what sugars do in the skin. It's not different from Hyaluronic Acid - it acts like a humectant. One HA molecule is supposed to hold up to 1000x heavier molecules than this one single HA molecule. Hyaluronic acid can have different molecular weights - smaller molecules are usually more hydrating than bigger ones. Thiamine HCl is a form of vitamin B1. It's an antioxidant. Pyridoxine or vitamin B6 is supposed to help with the sebum amount.
Folic Acid or vitamin B9 is an ingredient that I know more about as a supplement since we recommend the use of folic acid during pregnancy or even before you start planning pregnancy. It's a source of antioxidants, but it can help strengthen the skin barrier. Biotin is a water-soluble ingredient also known as Vitamin B7 or Vitamin H. It's an ingredient that reminds us of hair. Biotin as a supplement is recommended for hair care. Both oral and topical use of biotin can help with strengthening the nails and hair. It should have positive effects on the skin too. Pentylene Glycol is mostly a solvent and stabilizer, but it has great moisturizing properties. Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate is nothing else than another version of... If you thought about Hyaluronic Acid then you're right! It's another humectant in this formula. Menadione or vitamin K3, it's a fat-soluble vitamin. It is not as well known in skincare as vitamin C or vitamin E. It can have some positive effects on the skin like helping with dark circles or helping irritation, but data on this ingredient is not as enormous as on Vitamin C. Cyanocobalamin or vitamin B12 is not so popular in skincare, we all associate this vitamin with one vitamin that vegans and vegetarians have problems with. Vitamin B12 like all vitamins have an important role in our bodies, it helps us function. During med school, I was told to avoid B12 in skincare if I have acne, but for mature skin, this vitamin can make it look better. Riboflavin or Vitamin B2. It's an antioxidant that adds colour to the product. Inositol is a substance called "Vitamin B8", I want to make you aware that it's incorrect since inositol can be synthesised in the human body. Vitamins are not synthesised in the human body, but inositol is since it's not a vitamin. It has hydrating properties and it's a key to healthy hair! 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative - it protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Hydrogenated Lecithin is a version of lecithin. It works as an emollient in the formulas. Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate is an emulsifier with moisturizing properties. Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract can be a huge surprise since it has anti-aging properties. It adds flavour to the product but it also has antioxidant properties.
How does 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum work?
107 is not a new brand on Kherblog! Last year I was fascinated with 107 essential lines. Since then 107 grew a lot - 107 released shampoo, low pH soap and low molecular collagen supplement. I'm not a fan of supplements, but 107 has a great choice of Hanega vinegar - the same vinegar is a base of 107 products. Soseo is 107 beauty's new line, and it's based on 10 years aged Hanega black vinegar. The design of 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum fits the vinegar well. It kinda feels like Vitamin C Serum is more like a premium product.

To understand how 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum works and why 107 sells this serum under line Soseo, we should dig a bit deeper. 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum is based on VinBiome™ complex - it's a trademark complex unique to 107. This complex is based on ginsenosides, polyphenols, amino acids, minerals, vitamins and other substances that help boost your microbiome. VIN-B10™ is another unique complex in this formula. This one is related to Hanega's vinegar fermentation and all positivity that comes from the fermentation process and the final product itself.
As I said, 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum feels more premium, but even the formula itself was a huge surprise. At first, I wasn't sure if I'll enjoy it. The scent of Soseo serum is very defined. I'm not sure if that's vinegar or another ingredient, but it's not a typical fermentation scent. Many fermented products smell like plastic to me. I know, it sounds weird, but I have no idea why my nose picks this scent. Each day makes me enjoy 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum scent even more. The formula might feel a bit oily, but according to the brand 3 drops are enough to cover the skin. I love using this serum with gua sha during the evening (I use Athings OI Hand Calm Gua Sha**, both gua sha and this serum are available on Bemused Korea), and it became a point of my evening routine which I won't skip. I might forget essence or toner, but not my serum!
107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum is recommended for all skin types, its main task is to firm the skin, boost elasticity and calm redness or even balance uneven skin. I think that Vitamin C is important in your routine if you have paper-thin skin or your veins are very visible under the skin. I'm all skin and bones so redness is one of my problems. Right after the application of Vitamin C, I get a bit red, but using Vitamin C twice a day makes my skin a bit stronger. What I recommend - when you use Vitamin C, do an acid treatment from time to time or use it with Vitamin E to boost it and make it penetrate deeper.
107 did a great move to use 15% 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid since it's one of the best Vitamin C forms available. It's not the cheapest form, but worth it. After using this serum for a while, I feel like my skin is more nourished. 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum won't make your wrinkles and dark spots disappear in a minute but using this serum twice a day can be beneficial for your skin. In my case, I feel like my skin is healthier and what's important it's a 2nd Vitamin C serum which I can use with makeup. It's my 2nd time using 107 Beauty products, and I'm not disappointed.
Where to buy 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum and how much does it cost?
I got 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum from Bemused Korea**. Its regular price is $72/30ml. I'm aware that for many people Vitamin C that costs over $50 is a lot, but in this case, the price has a reason - 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid is not a cheap ingredient, not to mention that 10-year aged Hanega Black Vinegar which is a base for this serum is a handmade vinegar that costs $222 for 500ml. Still, Bemused Korea has many great promotions on 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum and other products. Feel free to use my code KHE15** to save 15% off on your order.
It's probably one of the most expensive Vitamin C serums I tried lately, but the craft is worth its price. 107 surprised me a lot with 107 Soseo VINBIOME Vitamin C Serum and I hope the Soseo line will develop in nearest future.
Have you ever tried 107 before?
