Cleansing balms has changed my life. I remember when I first heard about Korean skincare. I used to hate cleansing my skin, especially since removing the makeup was tricky. Thanks to Kbeauty, cleansing is no longer hard. Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm is one of the most affordable cleansing balms available. This product is a hanbang product that lots of people already love.
What's Hanbang?
Before we start, we need to understand what Hanbang stands for. Hanbang is a term for Traditional Korean Medicine. You can be a bit shocked since some ingredients used in Traditional Korean Medicine are similar to Traditional Chinese Medicine but that shouldn't surprise you since there are some herbs which you can find all around the world used to cure the illness. But Hanbang is not only about skincare but health in general. It's about using natural ingredients to help your body. Nowadays if it comes to Hanbang skincare, it's usually about mixing tradition with technology but still, it's all about antioxidants and the power of natural ingredients. Lots of luxurious brands are based on traditional herbal medicine. You have to believe that traditional medicine has a strong meaning in the culture - just look at universities in Korea, and you can find lots of programs related to traditional medicine.
Why cleansing is so important?
When we talk about acne-prone skin, we usually forget to focus on the main problem - pores. Pores are like canals for the skin that helps in breathing. They contain hair follicles and sebaceous glands (oil glands). Everyone has pores on their skin, but because of genetics, some of us have bigger pores, and some have smaller ones. If you're an owner of acne-prone skin, you're more likely to have enlarged pores. Sadly, pores can't shrink, but we can make them less visible if we choose the right skincare treatment. Pores can clog, and if we don't take the right care of our pores, we might have to deal with the consequences since clogged pores can lead to acne. Pore care is an important part of skincare. When I was a teenager, I remember that many girls used alcohol-based solutions because their sebaceous glands produced too much oil. Many people didn't know that using drying solutions like alcohol-based toners is making this situation worse, since alcohol is harsh on the skin. Alcohol indeed is drying for the skin, but when you remove natural sebum with oil, your skin gets a message to produce more sebum to protect your skin barrier. Since pores can't shrink it doesn't mean that we can't change them at all - proper cleansing and great toning products with the right ingredients can make pores appear smaller than they are! The cleansing balm is an ideal product to not only remove your makeup or sunscreen from the skin but also take care of your pores.

Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm - Packaging
Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm comes in a white paper box. Inside, you can see a white plastic jar with an easy opening and spatula. It's a simple construction.
Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm - Texture & Scent
Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm has a very mild scent. It doesn't remind me of anything. If it comes to texture, Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm is a solid formula that turns into milky water after you add water. Usually, formulas like that should emulsify or not. Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm does emulsify, but not fully. I'll tell you more about it later.
Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm - Ingredients
Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Synthetic Wax, PEG-10 Isostearate, Lactobacillus/Soybean Ferment Extract, Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Seed Water, Avena Sativa (Oat) Meal Extract, Coix Lacryma-Jobi Ma-yuen Seed Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Aqua, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Glycerin, Propanediol, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin
Cetyl Ethylhexanoate is an emollient that leaves a velvet layer on the surface of the skin. It appears in cleansing products, and it makes brushing and detangling your hair easier. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is a combination of coconut oil and glycerin. It's a notable emollient, quite common in skincare. It leaves a protective film on the surface of the epidermis to save your cutis from dehydration. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride has a significant role in skin care products - it makes the application process effortless. Some people might experience pore-clogging after using Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, but pore-clogging and skin reactions to ingredients are individual. What works for you might not work for someone else. PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate is an emollient and emulsifier. Synthetic Wax is a synthetic substance that is supposed to work as natural wax. It's an emollient that prevents TEWL (transepidermal water loss). PEG-10 Isostearate is a surfactant. Lactobacillus/Soybean Ferment Extract is a probiotic. It's derived through soy fermentation with the use of Lactobacillus. It has soothing properties. Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil is a red/orange oil. A source of vitamin E, Omega-7, lycopene and zeaxanthin. It works as an antioxidant and oily emollient. Sea Buckthorn Oil can make your skin orange. Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil is an emollient rich in antioxidants and nutritious components. It prevents TEWL (transepidermal water loss). It makes skin soft and less fragile. It works well on hair too. Oryza Sativa (Rice) Seed Water is an antioxidant with antimicrobial properties. It's a source of amino acids. Avena Sativa (Oat) Meal Extract has anti-inflammatory properties.
Coix Lacryma-Jobi Ma-yuen Seed Extract brightens the skin. It's a source of vitamin B3 and amino acids. It also adds moisture to the skin. The other name of this Coix Lacryma-Jobi Ma-yuen is job's tears. Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract is a source of proteins, vitamins like vitamin E and minerals like potassium. It's a rich antioxidant with antiseptic and anti-aging properties. Rice Extract has positive effects on hair. Aqua hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Sorbitan Sesquioleate is a water-in-oil emulsifier. Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Its origin can be natural or synthetic - depending on the product. It protects TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and naturally occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs - natural moisturizing factors. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it just the opposite - it protects your skin from irritation. Propanediol is also known as natural glycol - an alternative to propylene glycol. Propanediol is a solvent with additional moisturizing properties. It makes the product smooth to the touch. It can even improve the effectiveness of active ingredients. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps with the penetration of active ingredients, protects products from drying and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and make your hair stronger. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative - it protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Caprylyl Glycol is an oily emollient and humectant. It leaves a moisturizing film on the surface of the skin. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties.
How does Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm work?
It's not my first meeting with Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm. I have samples of the old formula before, and the formula itself was nice, but my main problem with the old version was the fact that it left fog in my eyes. I hate that feeling and I usually search for cleansing balms and oils that don't make my eyes foggy. I'm not sure if I would buy this cleanser on my own, because I always try to search for new brands when I buy products, but I got this Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm as a Christmas gift from Oh My Beloved, and I knew lots of people are searching for a review of this product.
Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm has great packaging which I appreciate when I'm travelling. If you saw my Heimish review then you can see how massive the box is. Heimish has only 20ml more of the product. Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm contains 100ml of the product and the packaging is quite thin. Maybe not as thin as The Body Shop'c Cleansing Butter, but still it doesn't take too much place in my cosmetic bag. When I travel, I like to save money and places, and sadly it's hard to buy tiny cleansing balms for travelling. I'm not joking, sometimes tiny ones cost more than full-size ones, and it's a waste to buy a mini product if it's still a bit too much for me and my monthly 2-days long trips. Anyway, it's compact packaging which I enjoy.
Inside, there's no additional lid to cover the balm. Sometimes I enjoy solutions like "inside lid" so I don't have to put a spatula straight in the balm, but even a lack of it is not a problem. I do put a spatula in balm, not the most hygienic solution, but so far I have had no problems with skin irritation. I'm aware that many people don't have problems when their product got "contaminated" with their bacteria, but in my case - I can't use L'oreal Eye Serum because I have to disinfect the applicator every time it touches my skin. I don't have this problem with Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm. So the spatula is not a problem.
I guess the first scoop of the cleansing balm is the best. The formula is solid but easy to dig in. It's a white balm that melts in your fingers but not totally. I told you that even if it's an emulsifying balm - if you add water it turns into milky water, but it has one problem. Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm doesn't melt fully. It's somehow annoying, because I was at the hotel, and normally I remove my makeup while taking a bath, but in a hotel, it's a bit impossible - I need to stand in front of the mirror and sink. 5 minutes after cleansing I figured out that I got an unmelted piece on my neck, and I had to cleanse my skin with foam once again. If you have little time because it's cold AF in a hotel - it can be annoying. But not only in a situation like this! In general, we all prefer products that melt beautifully.
What I love about this new version of Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm - it doesn't fog my eyes. When I posted my review on my Instagram account (because lately, I'm more up-to-date there than on Kherblog), I heard that some people still experience the fogging, but in my case - it doesn't happen. It's quite an affordable product, and small amounts are enough to cleanse your skin. It's not the best Beauty Of Joseon product, but I do appreciate it for its affordable price and compact size.
Where to buy Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm?
I got my Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm from Oh My Beloved where you can get this Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm** for $13.93/100ml. It's not a bad price for a cleansing balm.
Overall, it's not the best Beauty Of Joseon product, but the price is a good reason for me to repurchase it.
