Olens Mood Night Mood Brown, Mood Gray and Mood Night Toric

Do you have astigmatism, and do you want to try coloured lenses? Then I might have found the ideal lenses for you! Olens released their Mood Night lenses Olens in the Toric version. It's not a common thing - at least in Poland to see coloured lenses for astigmatism.

About Olens

Olens is the no. 1 premium colour contact lens brand from South Korea. This brand makes regular lenses as well as coloured lenses. It's a pioneer in Beauty&Healthy eye styling, and it's a brand that is recognised all over the world. Olens products were used in many Kdramas and photoshoots. The brand was in the spotlight of many beauty programs in Korea.

Can coloured lenses be corrective?

I feel like many people think that contact lenses are not for eyes with no vision problems and that coloured lenses shouldn't be used by people with vision issues. That's not true! The main reason for wearing lenses for many people is aesthetic issues or comfort issues - I started to wear lenses because I find glasses more problematic, and they usually don't fit me well. Lenses don't make me tired and I feel like thanks to contact lenses my sight is doing better than it would do with glasses. Coloured lenses are sometimes called "cosmetic lenses" since they change the visual colour of your iris, and that's something some people don't know - when you buy coloured lenses from Olens you can fit them to your needs, if you need corrective aspect of lenses, you can choose the shade of the lens and power. All the lenses I tested in this post are -3.00 power.

How to choose lenses for my eyes and skin?

If you want to try Olens so badly, but don't know what colour fits your skin - Olens has the #FindMyOlens option which helps you choose a lens shade that fits your skin tone. You can also choose graphic size and colour. There are even styling videos that can help you choose a makeup style to fit your eyes with Olens lenses on.

What's Puscon?

Since lenses used by New Jeans are mostly based on Puscon (only Haerin uses Nils Gray which are lenses made with HEMA material) it's good to know what you're using. Some of the puscon's features you should know about is that puscon is the safest bio material for contact lenses. It forms something called a "Strong Hydration Shield". It adds more moisture to the eye. Puscon prevents protein deposition and has a strong UV-block function to protect your eyes from UV radiation. Yes, UV radiation is dangerous for eyes, and it's quite rare to find lenses that block UV. My regular monthly lenses are made out of silicone-hydrogel, and puscon is more comfortable since it contains even more water and they don't get dry as fast.

What's the difference between regular contact lenses and toric ones?

Astigmatism is a vision condition. It's related to the irregular size of the lens of the eye or cornea. People with astigmatism usually have problems with blurry vision and difficulties at night - you probably saw the graphic of how people with astigmatism see lights at night. One of the ways to correct astigmatism is by using special toric lenses. Regular lenses are called spherical lenses while toric lenses are called cylindrical lenses.

I got diagnosed with mild astigmatism, but in my case, toric lenses aren't needed (so far), but what I know is that getting toric lenses is not as easy as with regular ones. If I go to a store and I want to buy regular lenses (not Olens) then I need to order lenses online and wait about a week, if it comes to toric lenses, at least my optometrist told me that ordering toric lenses has a longer period of completing the order. That's why for me Olens is better because shipping from Korea sometimes takes less waiting than buying normal lenses (btw Olens also sells normal, non-coloured lenses).

Olens Mood Night series

Olens Mood Night series comes in two variants, each variant has two shades. Olens Mood Night comes in Mood Gray and Mood Brown shades. Olens Mood Night Toric also comes in Mood Gray and Mood Brown shades. How do you know that you buy the Toric version? Olens asks you to choose power and CYL - cylinder, it's a power to correct astigmatism. I tried to show you the difference between Mood Night Mood Gray regular, and toric, but I believe it's not super visible. The slogan for the Mood Night series is "mood in your eyes".

Olens Mood Night Mood Gray

DIA (diameter) 14,0 mm | G.DIA (graphic diameter) 13,3 mm | Base curve 8.6mm | Water content: 38% | Material: HEMA

These lenses come in two varieties - daily or monthly lenses. I've tested the monthly version. Darker lenses are my huge weakness so when I saw Olens Mood Night Mood Gray for the first time I knew I'm going to love them! My eyes are quite light so the difference with darker lenses is more spectacular. This lens has a soft gradated edge line - it's not one big line, but a delicate gradient that makes your eye look more natural. According to Olens, Mood Night Mood Gray has calm ash gray tone. I love this shade because it's a cold shade that suits my eyes better than warmer lenses. The microdot solution is clever since it doesn't look super artificial.

The gray lenses enlarge my eyes, but look how well they compose with blue-green eyes! The blue shades are so visible! The gradation on the edge is visible on camera but in real life, it looks so natural! The lenses even if they have only 38% of water content are comfortable to wear. Right now it's allergy season so I got some trouble with tears, but these lenses don't irritate my eyes, they don't give me a dry feeling and in general, I can wear them and forget about makeup - they do the entire work!

Olens Mood Night Mood Gray Toric

DIA (diameter) 14,2 mm | G.DIA (graphic diameter) 13,3 mm | Base curve 8.6mm | Water content: 40% | Material: Silicone | Remark: AXIS180

I can't tell you if Olens Mood Night Mood Gray Toric are comfortable to wear since my astigmatism is so delicate, all I need is to do regular check-ups to see how my eyes are doing. What you can notice is that these lenses have a 0,2mm bigger diameter than spherical Mood Night and water content is 2% higher. What does the AXIS180 in the remark mean? 180 degrees mean that astigmatism is horizontal. One of the biggest differences for me aka the person who wears spherical lenses in cylindrical lenses is J in the bottom of the lens. J in the bottom of the lens helps you apply the lens the proper way since the shape of the cylindrical lens is different than the spherical lens, and it matters how you wear these lenses. If you wonder - yes, I can notice J on the bottom of my eye when I go close to the mirror, but it doesn't mess up the way I see the world.

The features of these lenses and the spherical version of Mood Night Mood Gray are the same. Olens Mood Night Toric lenses are also available in Mood Brown colour.

Olens Mood Night Toric are not the only lens created by the brand for people with astigmatism. I recommend checking their website for a bigger choice.

Olens Mood Night Mood Brown has a smooth, soft edge gradated line, but these lenses have calm ash brown shade. The shade fits my eyes perfectly - the colour isn't too warm, and the delicate tint on the edge gives my eyes more depth. If you zoom the photo then the microdot pattern is visible, but in real life, no one can notice the pattern. They only see the colour change. Olens Mood Night Mood Brown is super comfortable to wear.

I am from the US, can I still order lenses from Olens?

Yes. Contact lenses in the US are not sold as easily as in Europe. In comparison, in Europe, I can ask my optometrist or eye doctor to order lenses for me or I can order them on my own. Some brands are available in stores so even if you're out of lenses you can buy them. I had a situation when I got my first lenses and I didn't know that 1-day lenses are not as easy to put as 1-month lenses I needed to grab new pair in a random drugstore in Paris. The US situation looks different because of US FCLCA (The Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act) so Olens can be ordered if you're living in the US but your lenses will go through a prescription verification system.
