My main problem with sunscreens is the amount of alcohol that makes many products too drying even for my combo/oily skin. If that's also your problem then Jumiso has a solution for both of us. Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen and Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-fit Daily Moisturizer are two new products from South Korean brand Jumiso. The brand released a chemical sunscreen and 2-in-1 moisturizer with high SPF protection. Are these products suitable for your skin?
What's UV?
UV stands for Ultraviolet, it's nothing else than the selected range of frequencies of the electromagnetic spectrum. UV rays are not visible to humans but it doesn't mean that they don't exist. Each type of UV - UVA, UVB and UVC has different wavelengths and different properties.
UVA, UVB and UVC - what does each of them do and where you can meet them?
I'm sure you know about UVA and UVB but UVC or the difference between UVA2 and UVA1? Let's start from the shortest wavelengths - UVC (100nm - 280nm) exist in space and it's absorbed by the ozone layer, it can kill bacteria that's why on Earth you can find it in germicidal lamps - you might ask me, but these lamps are usually visible to a human - it's because they are made in a way that makes them safe for you and other people - you shouldn't enter the room when the UV lamp is on and make people aware that the lamp is on we add other substances so the lamp has a blue/purple colour when it's on. This technology is used for example at labs and hospitals. We all remember UVB (280nm –315nm) because it is told that B in UVB stands for BURN. Indeed, this UV length is responsible for sunburns, but it also helps with the synthesis of Vitamin D - a vitamin which we all need because lack of it can lead to osteoporosis. UVB is focused on the epidermis aka the outer layer of the skin while UVA (315nm –400nm) can penetrate through the epidermis and dermis so it penetrates your skin deeper. A in its name stands for Aging. The bad news is that UVA can penetrate glass, and both UVA and UVB make lots of damage including skin cancer and oxidative stress.
How to check UVA protection?
We all know how to check UVB protection thanks to the SPF system, but what about UVA? Depending on the country and product UVA protection can be signified in a few ways: - PPD (Persistent Pigment Darkening) - UVA- PF - PA - Broad-spectrum
UVA systems are not as easy to understand as UVA. In Europe, UVA protection (UVA-PF) should be at least 1/3 of SPF protection. PPD - the higher the number, the better the protection is, while PA is based on the + system. The higher the number is pluses, the UVA protection is better. Broad-spectrum is used mostly in the US and it means that sunscreen contains UVA & UVB protection. It's best if companies clearly say what's the UVA-PF/PPD value since La Roche Posay PA/PPD is around 54 while many of the sunscreens you will see today are PA/PPD 16, both PA/PPD54 and PA/PPD16 are usually hiding under PA++++ since PA above 16 can use PA++++ mark.
Should I wear sunscreen at home?
We already know that UVA penetrates through the glass so do we need to use sunscreen at home? Yes, especially if you spend lots of time working near the window then it's better to put on a layer of sunscreen in the morning and have any type of protection at home as well. But you can also use window films to reduce the risk. The choice is left to you, what I do is keep my blinds on the window during the entire morning and when the sun is not that intense because my windows are situated on the Eastern side the light usually starts to fade afternoon - usually by afternoon I already have sunscreen on, few times reapplied.
What's the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen?
It depends on which side we look at this topic. Mineral sunscreens are sunscreens that don't contain any carbon atoms - this automatically makes them inorganic sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens contain carbon atoms, which makes them organic substances. The main difference is that mineral sunscreen usually leaves a white cast, and it's better if we use both Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide for a broad spectrum of UV protection. Chemical sunscreens don't leave a white cast, and they have more sophisticated formulas. Both are amazing, in some cases, PIH (hyperpigmentation), mineral sunscreens, and natural pigments can make a good layer of protection from UV rays.
About Jumiso
Jumiso is a Korean skincare brand. The name Jumiso stands for miso - smile and ju - give, so the name can be understood as the brand wants to 'give you a smile' or make you smile (like in the actual slogan). The brand is known for its cult All Day Vitamin Brightening & Balancing Serum. In 2023 the brand released many great products like two new versions of vitamin C and new sunscreens. I was lucky enough to be able to test them for you.
Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen - Packaging
Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen comes in a paper box. The tube is made out of plastic and the brand informs you how to recycle the product. I wish more brands would do what Jumiso did with Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen - this sunscreen has a special place to write down the date of opening the product.
Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen - Texture
The texture of Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen is lightweight. It's a moisturizing cream that looks white, but once you apply it onto your skin then you don't have to expect white cast. It doesn't leave a white cast, it doesn't pile or sting your eyes. If you have warm-toned skin, there's a chance that Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen might leave a delicate film on your skin, the same for darker skin tones - I would recommend reading other reviews to see how this product looks on darker skin. It works great under makeup, I feel like it acts a bit like a base product, because when I forgot to take any body sunscreen with me and I used it on my hands, my body felt so sticky. I can't feel that under makeup, but on clean skin it was annoying. It's worth mentioning that Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen has a more satin-like finish, it adds a healthy glow to the skin.
Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen - Scent
The good information is that Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen is unscented. Sunscreens can have its typical scent, but somehow in this case it doesn't smell like anything to me.
Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen - SPF & UVA protection
According to Jumiso, Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen provides SPF50+ protection and PA++++ protection. Jumiso didn't share more detailed information related to the UVA & UVB protection values of its sunscreen.

Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Bambusa Arundinacea (Bamboo) Stem Extract is an exfoliant but it can also absorb sebum. It has some antibacterial and whitening properties. It contains high amounts of silica. Dibutyl Adipate is an oily emollient. This oil-soluble ingredient dissolves in oils. It creates a hydrating film on the surface of the skin to prevent the skin from dehydration. You can meet it in sunscreens as a solvent. Butyloctyl Salicylate is a solvent commonly used in sunscreens. It doesn't only stabilize some sunscreen agents, it also boosts SPF protection. Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Its origin can be natural or synthetic - depending on the product. It protects TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and naturally occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs - natural moisturizing factors. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it just the opposite - it protects your skin from irritation. Propanediol is also known as natural glycol - an alternative to propylene glycol. Propanediol is a solvent with additional moisturizing properties. It makes the product smooth to the touch. It can even improve the effectiveness of active ingredients. Ethylhexyl Triazone or Uvinul T 150 is a sun-protecting agent. It covers the UVB range (280-320nm). Its peak is at 314 nm. Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid is a long name, that's why you probably know this ingredient as Mexoryl SX or ecamsule. Mexoryl SX was patented in 1982 by L'oreal so when we talk about other brands we stick to the name Ecamsule. This sunscreen protects your skin from UVA radiation (315–400 nm) and it has its peak at 345nm. It's a chemical sunscreen with high stability. Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate is an emulsifier. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 - a vitamin soluble in water. It helps with problems like wrinkles, acne, skin texture, and enlarged pores and promotes collagen synthesis. Niacinamide makes the skin barrier stronger. It might be handy in cellulite treatments. Do you want to fight pigmentation or uneven skin? Try to mix niacinamide with Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Vitamin C, Tranexamic Acid or Retinol. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps with the penetration of active ingredients, protects products from drying and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and make your hair stronger. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative - it protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Tromethamine is a synthetic pH adjuster. Pentylene Glycol is mostly a solvent and stabilizer, but it has great moisturizing properties. Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate or Uvinul A Plus is a sun-protecting agent. It covers the UVA range (320-400 nm), and its peak of protection is 354 nm. Polysilicone-15 might sound like a normal ingredient, but the other name of this ingredient is Parsol SLX. You're right! It's a sun-protecting ingredient. It protects your skin from UVB radiation (290-320 nm) and its peak is around 310 nm. It makes a great pair with Avobenzone. It's quite common in hair care products.
Sodium Hyaluronate or sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. It's a form of hyaluronic acid and naturally occurs in the skin. Sodium Hyaluronate has strong water-binding properties. Sodium hyaluronate combined with elastin and collagen is like a scaffolding for the skin. It has hydrating properties and leaves a hydrating film on the skin, but sodium hyaluronate prevents skincare products from drying. Echium Plantagineum Seed Oil is an emollient that creates a delicate film on the surface of the skin. It can help minimise negative UV effects on the skin and hair. Glyceryl Stearate is an emollient with emulsifying properties. Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine is quite a hard name to remember, that's why you can find people talking about this ingredient by calling it Tinosorb S. It's one of the newer types of sunscreen agents and one of the strongest ones. It's a chemical sunscreen that protects skin from UVA (315-400 nm) & UVB (280-315 nm), and its peak is high. It's a stable sunscreen that works with other sun-protecting substances to protect their early photodegradation. Cetearyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol. In the beauty industry, it's an emollient. Many people associate alcohol with something awful for the epidermis, but not every alcohol is nasty. Cetearyl alcohol leaves a moisturizing film on the skin to prevent your skin from transepidermal water loss (TEWL). We use Cetearyl alcohol to create an emulsion. Octyldodecanol is an emollient and fatty alcohol. It's also a solvent. Panthenol is a humectant. It prevents skin from TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss). Panthenol is also known as vitamin B5, and it helps with inflammation. Panthenol can soothe the skin irritated by preservatives, scent ingredients, and chemical sunscreens - it might have a meaning for lipids in our skin and skin barrier. It speeds up the healing process. It's good to use it after sunbathing. In hair care, Panthenol has moisturizing properties. If you have problems detangling your hair or hair growth go for Panthenol. It is good to mix it with niacinamide and zinc oxide. You can see it in products for atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. Carbomer is a synthetic thickener. Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer is a polymer with thickening properties. Glyceryl Stearate Citrate is a water-in-oil emulsifier. Inulin Lauryl Carbamate is an emulsifier. Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer is a synthetic polymer and quite a large molecule. It works as a thickener and emulsion stabiliser. Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate is an oil-in-water emulsifier. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. Adenosine naturally occurs in the skin. One of the adenosine's roles in our bodies is being a neurotransmitter. In skin care, we use adenosine for its anti-wrinkle properties. Adenosine is an anti-inflammatory ingredient. It can boost collagen production. At the same time, it speeds up the healing process. Adenosine can have positive effects on reducing redness. In hair care, adenosine can help with hair loss. Methylpropanediol is a solvent with antimicrobial properties. Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil Unsaponifiables is an emollient. It's rich in linoleic acid and tocopherol. It helps with the dryness of the skin. Polyether-1 is a thickener. Tocopherol is an antioxidant known as Vitamin E. It's an oil-soluble vitamin that fights free radicals and makes UVB protection and natural lipid barrier stronger. It's good to mix it with vitamin C for better effects. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars. Biosaccharide Gum-1 is a product of sorbitol fermentation. It's a polysaccharide - nothing else than sugar, and sugar in skincare usually has moisturizing properties. Biosaccharide Gum-1 has also calming and soothing properties. You might want to use it with hyaluronic acid for longer and stronger hydration.
How does Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen work?
There's a reason why Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen is before Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen. Somehow Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen is more suitable for my skin or maybe I should form this sentence bit differently. I find 2-in-1 moisturizers not as good for me as regular sunscreens even if both products have it's advantages and disadvantages.
Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen is promoted by Jumiso as a sunscreen for everyone, everywhere. I live in a quite humid place, but I tested Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen in a dryer climate too. Every time I travel away from the sea I can feel the huge difference when it comes to my skin and skincare - the products don't act the same and somehow places with lower humidity makes me choose my moisturizing products as well as using more lipcare products than normally. Back to Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen, the lightweight formula with no white cast and no piling is something I love. Even if in a dry climate this sunscreen felt a bit more sticky when applied on hand, it wasn't enough for me to tell stop. It works perfectly with Clio Founwear Cushion, it's hydrating - my skin doesn't get dry after the entire day. I feel like it works a bit as a primer/base for makeup. It has this satin-like finish that gives the skin a natural glow.
It's easy to apply the product to the skin, it doesn't leave any smudges, and it feels invisible on the skin. It gets absorbed by skin so quickly, you can just apply the layer of sunscreen and you don't have to wait with makeup. You have to remember to apply the right amount of the product and reapplication every 2-3 hours. Jumiso recommends using this sunscreen with Vitamin C. I didn't have any of Jumiso Vitamin C serums to use it with this sunscreen, but it works well with Isntree Vitamin C serum from this post.
The biggest advantage of this product is the lack of scent, if you're sensitive to the scent - go for this sunscreen.
Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-fit Daily Moisturizer - Packaging

Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-fit Daily Moisturizer - Texture
The texture of Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-fit Daily Moisturizer is more watery than Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen. It's also more moisturizing. It's a lightweight cream, it might look white but once you start applying it to your skin, you won't see any smudge or white tint. Since Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen is based on Tinosorb sunscreen, it might leave a delicate tint on warmer or darker skin, that's why if you have warm-toned skin or darker skin tone, I recommend checking reviews from other creators too - just to see how this texture acts on other skin tones. One pro tip - shake it before you use it, I'm not sure if it's just my problem or a common issue but sometimes the water layer of this product likes to separate from the formula.

Silicones have a positive meaning to your skin - they make products easier to spread, make the formula more elegant and even protect skin and hair. Ethylhexyl Triazone or Uvinul T 150 is a sun-protecting agent. It covers the UVB range (280-320nm). Its peak is at 314 nm. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 - a vitamin soluble in water. Do you want to fight pigmentation or uneven skin? Try to mix niacinamide with Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Vitamin C, Tranexamic Acid or Retinol. Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol sounds a bit like a magic spell. You might know it as a Tinosorb M - a new generation of sun-protecting agents. Tinosorb M is a broad-spectrum filter since it covers UVA and UVB wavelengths (280-400nm). It's a so-called hybrid sunscreen agent because it's between mineral and chemical sunscreen agents. It might leave some white cast. Coco-Caprylate/Caprate is an oily emollient derived from coconut. Some people call this amazing emollient, a "natural silicone". It leaves a silky, moisturizing film on the surface of the skin. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative - it protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Caprylyl Methicone is an alkylmethyl silicone and emollient. It has a waxy texture, and it makes the product easier to apply. It works great with natural ingredients and pigment. It's a volatile silicone so you don't have to worry - it disappeared almost right after application.
Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone is another hard name, but you can also call it Uvasorb HEB. It protects the skin from UVB and UVA II radiation ( it doesn't cover UVA I wavelength range). It's a photostable ingredient used in water-resistant formulas. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps with the penetration of active ingredients, protects products from drying and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and make your hair stronger. Pentylene Glycol is mostly a solvent and stabilizer, but it has great moisturizing properties. Behenyl Alcohol might sound scary, but it's a fatty alcohol. This type of alcohol is positive for the skin since it works as an emollient. It helps with the texture of the product. Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate is an oil-in-water emulsifier, suitable for vegans. Decyl Glucoside is a non-ionic surfactant that works as an emulsifier and thickener. Tromethamine is a synthetic pH adjuster. Carbomer is a synthetic thickener. Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer is a synthetic polymer and quite a large molecule. It works as a thickener and emulsion stabiliser. Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate is an oil-in-water emulsifier. Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6 is a thickener, it helps create elegant, non-sticky formulas. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. Adenosine naturally occurs in the skin. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars.
How does Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-fit Daily Moisturizer work?
I'm not a fan of a 2-in-1 product, but that's what Jumiso released under the name Awe-Sun Airy-fit Daily Moisturizer. It's a sunscreen and moisturizer in one. It is more watery than Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen. Similar, to sunscreen it leaves no white cast and it's easily absorbed by the skin. It has no scent so many people will find it super comfortable.
The main idea behind this product was to simplify the routine. I don't know how about you, but I'm used to that 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 products are usually flops. They don't usually work well, so Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-fit Daily Moisturizer is a big surprise since as much as I can test it, it works great and it has this additional layer of moisture. It goes well with makeup - it doesn't pile.
I got one problem with this texture - it likes to separate so it's good to shake it before you apply it, another way you'll get thick cream and a watery layer separated on your hand, and you'll have to mix it. It doesn't look super aesthetic.
What's the difference between Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen and Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-fit Daily Moisturizer?
Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-Fit Sunscreen is a pure sunscreen, while Jumiso Awe-Sun Airy-fit Daily Moisturizer is a moisturizer with high SPF values.
