Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner

Winter calls for rich textures, so it shouldn't surprise us that products like cream toners are popular (not only during this season!) Laneige renewed its cult Laneige Cream Skin Refiner and released a new version. Is Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner better than the classic Laneige Cream Skin Refiner?

Is this a toner or an essence?

What's a Cream Skin? Some toners in Korea are called "skin" so Laneige Cream Skin Refiner and Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner are nothing else than products which you can use instead of toner.

About Laneige

2019 was the year of the Laneige - Cream Skin series, new products in the Water Bank series, Laneige in Europe, Glow Makeup Serum and now Cica Mask! 2021 wasn't worse for the brand - retinol series. 2024 just started but Laneige lately introduced us to new Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Creams - in three different versions. Laneige is a brand with 30 years of tradition. Yes, Laneige was established in 1994 so this year Laneige turns 30! I guess we can expect some new collaborations, throwback products or something different this year. The owner of this company is Amore Pacific. The name Laneige comes from the French "La Neige", which means snow. Laneige focuses on water and technology. This brand knows how to keep your skin hydrated while fighting other skin problems, but it's not only about skincare! The Two-Tone Bar Lipstick used by actress Song Hye-Kyo in the K-drama Descendants of The Sun sold out quickly. I remember Two Toner Bar Lipstick better from Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo with Lee Sung-Kyung. Both actresses made an appearance in Laneige commercials. Actress Kim Yoo-Jung is currently the face of Laneige and Radian-C Cream. It's quite an affordable brand with sweet but not too sugary packaging. The packaging makes me believe that the main targets are teens and young adults. It's like a transition between Etude House and Sulwhasoo if Etude House is a teenage girl and Sulwhasoo is a mature lady.

Lately, you have probably seen Laneige in the K-drama "My Demon" - even the first episode had a cool product placement of Laneige Neo Cushion Matte in a renewed version. I got a new version which I'm testing for you, but meanwhile, you can check the review of the old version on Kherblog. You probably saw Kim Yoo Jung - the actress playing Do Do-hee in "My Demon" - in Laneige commercials.

Laneige Cream Skin Refiner

Refiner was the first product from the Cream Skin series, I think I saw it first in Liah Yoo's photo (just like Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask). I enjoyed using the first version of Laneige Cream Skin a lot so when I saw that Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner is finally in Europe - I had to buy it!

Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner - Packaging

Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner comes in a minimalistic white box with blue text and a delicate, orange accent. The aesthetic fits the current, futuristic Laneige design. At the bottom of the box, we can find information that Laneige used FSC-certified paper, there's also information about recycling and information that "the water footprint of this product has been measured and certified". The PAO date of Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner is 12 months. I'm glad that Laneige has packaging with text in English, but there's also translation to French, German, Swedish, Polish and even Romanian, but somehow there's no text in Korean. Still, you can find that this product was made in Korea.

Inside the box, we can find a transparent bottle with a white cap. Currently, the bottle contains 170ml of refiner. The old bottle was only 150 ml.

Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner - Texture

The texture is like water but a bit thicker. It might remind you of diluted milk. The scent is creamy, but light. For me, the texture feels like a 1:1 copy of old texture, it might feel more hydrating on the skin, but I don't see the difference.

Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner - Ingredients

Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Isopentyldiol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Squalane, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Inulin Lauryl Carbamate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Propanediol, Disodium EDTA, Carbomer, Mannitol, Acrylates/Stearyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Tremella Fuciformis Sporocarp Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Xanthan Gum, Ceramide NP, Camellia Japonica Flower Extract, Tocopherol, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-11

Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps with the penetration of active ingredients, protects products from drying and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and make your hair stronger. Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Its origin can be natural or synthetic - depending on the product. It protects TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and naturally occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs - natural moisturizing factors. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it just the opposite - it protects your skin from irritation. Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil is an emollient rich in Vitamin E and A. This ingredient creates a film on the surface of the skin. Isopentyldiol is a humectant and solvent. It makes products easier to spread. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative - it protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Squalane is an ingredient very similar to our sebum. Squalane and squalene sound similar, but there's a difference. Squalane has no double bonds while squalene has double bonds. What does it mean? Squalane is a more stable version of squalene. What I love about this ingredient is how well it works with all skin types, and how our skin needs it. Believe me, if your skin is irritated - go for squalane! This ingredient is usually derived from sugarcane or olives. It acts like an emollient and you need it in your life. Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate is an emulsifier with moisturizing properties. Glyceryl Stearate Citrate is a water-in-oil emulsifier. Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate is an oil-in-water emulsifier. Inulin Lauryl Carbamate is an emulsifier. Glyceryl Caprylate is a natural oily emollient and emulsifier. It creates a delicate film on the surface of the skin. It has some antimicrobial properties. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. Propanediol is also known as natural glycol - an alternative to propylene glycol. Propanediol is a solvent with additional moisturizing properties. It makes the product smooth to the touch. It can even improve the effectiveness of active ingredients.

Disodium EDTA neutralizes metal ions in the formula to keep products fresh. Carbomer is a synthetic thickener. Mannitol is a sugar, and sugars in skincare have moisturizing properties. Acrylates/Stearyl Methacrylate Copolymer is a film-forming ingredient. Tremella Fuciformis Sporocarp Extract, Silver Ear Fungus Extract or Snow Mushroom Extract is a polysaccharide and moisturizing antioxidant. It's a source of glucuronic acid and it has some anti-inflammatory properties. Hyaluronic Acid is an ingredient loved by everyone! Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the skin. It's a glycosaminoglycan or GAG. What does that mean? It's a long polysaccharide - nothing else than sugar, and we all know what sugars do in the skin. It's not different from Hyaluronic Acid - it acts like a humectant. One HA molecule is supposed to hold up to 1000x heavier molecules than this one single HA molecule. Hyaluronic acid can have different molecular weights - smaller molecules are usually more hydrating than bigger ones. Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract is an antioxidant - it fights free radicals and fixes the damage. Green tea is a source of many positive-to-the-skin substances such as catechins (EGCG, EGC, EC, CG), flavonoids, amino acids, vitamin C, and minerals. It works for all skin types. Since it has antibacterial properties, many products for young, acne-prone skin contain this ingredient. It has soothing properties, and it's good to use it along with sunscreen to boost the protection of your skin. Xanthan Gum is a polysaccharide that works as a thickener. Ceramides naturally occur in the skin - it's like cement in the skin. Ceramide NP (also known as Ceramide 3) strengthens the skin barrier to prevent dehydration. Camellia Japonica Flower Extract is an antioxidant. Camellia Japonica has a long history of use in beauty. It's a source of gallic acid, superoxide dismutase and Camellioside A - a triterpenoid. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. Tocopherol is an antioxidant known as Vitamin E. It's an oil-soluble vitamin that fights free radicals and makes UVB protection and natural lipid barrier stronger. It's good to mix it with vitamin C for better effects. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars. Acetyl Tetrapeptide-11 is a synthetic peptide. It contains leucine, proline and tyrosine amino acids.

Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner

How does Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner work?

I want to introduce you to the product first and then share my experience with you. Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner is introduced to the market as a product for people who are tired of layering. I'm not tired of layering, I treat it as a super hydrating toner for wintertime since during summer Cream Skin texture is too rich for me.

Cerapeptide™ in the new Refiner is a combination of hydro-ceramide and 2 types of peptides to provide moisture, firming and a stronger skin barrier to the skin. Laneige uses Micro Blending Technolog™ to make products easily absorbed by the skin. The particles of Cerapeptide are smaller than originally, due to Micro Blending Technolog™ the size of particles is 1/300 of its original size.

Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner is recommended for dry to normal skin. I got combo skin, but I still use Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner because it's so hydrating. Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner is created for people who deal with dry, patchy skin which makes makeup look blotchy, for people who have to deal with air-conditioning and heater and for people who can't have proper skincare due to skin sensitivity to the products. That's something I can relate to since my skin gets dry when I have to deal with an air-con or heater.

Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner

You can use it as a toner or as a mist - sadly, I didn't see the pump or refills being sold in Poland, but there are refills for this version (that aren't sold in Poland as well). Yes, you can buy an additional pump. I found one while making this post on YesStyle* and Olive Young*, sadly the one at Olive Young is sold out at the moment. Refills similar to full-size Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner bottle has 170 ml of the formula.

I'm a fan of both versions since the texture is very similar and hydrating, they don't sensitize my skin and the only thing I'm sad about is packaging, because even if I love this new Laneige aesthetic, I miss the old, glass bottle. It wasn't convenient to travel with but it felt so nice. On the other hand, the new bottle contains 20ml more of the Cream Skin formula than the old bottle.

Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner is supposed to be more hydrating, the skin is supposed to stay deeply hydrated for up to 120 hours. That's something I can't check, but it does feel like it's a hydrating toner. This version contains 2x white leaf tea which is supposed to calm skin and relieve redness for about 40% in comparison to the old version. I do see that my skin gets less red when I use it than when I don't use it.

Laneige Cream Skin Old Version

Laneige Cream Skin Old Version

Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, 1,2-Hexanediol, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Inulin Lauryl Carbamate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Propanediol, Disodium EDTA, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Tocopherol

New ingredients in 2nd version: Isopentyldiol, Squalane, Carbomer, Mannitol, Acrylates/Stearyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Tremella Fuciformis Sporocarp Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Ceramide NP, Camellia Japonica Flower Extract, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-11

I'm a fan of both formulas and for me, White Leaf Tea, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-11, Snow Mushroom, Squalane and Ceramide NP are not a problem, but I know some people are not fans of Hyaluronic Acid. For me, this composition is totally fine and I think this formula is worth a try. The review of old Laneige Cream Skin Refiner is on Kherblog.

Where to get Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner?

I bought Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner for about $38 at Sephora, but you can find Laneige Cream Skin Cerapeptide™ Refiner* in a full-size version (170ml) + refill (170ml) for $35.20 on Olive Young*. You can also use my code BETWEEND0 to save an additional $ on your order.

Overall, I'm glad Laneige decided to boost the original version with so many hydrating ingredients.
