Scared of microneedling? This K-beauty brand has a painless solution for you: VT Reedle Shot 100

I should add a Drake meme - microneedling with a roller at home? No, microneedling with VT Reedle Shot 100? Yes! I believe you get the concept. As an esthetician, I hate when people use rollers at home because this type of device has a lot of risk. How do I feel about the VT Reedle Shot series? I love it.
After a long time, I'm writing you a review of VT Reedle Shot 100.

It's been a long time without any post. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that I had eye surgery, and because of that I lost my job - yeah, normal thing in the US, not normal in Europe. Pro tip: never tell your boss that you need surgery, just take sick leave and act like you didn't know you need surgery that isn't even sponsored by your health insurance.

Anyway, today I'm coming to you with a VT Reedle Shot 100 review. It's a serum which I've been using for almost a year now. I already ordered a few other products like this including different versions of VT Reedle Shot so you can expect lots of posts and comparisons of different versions of Kherblog.

About the brand: VT

If you haven't heard about VT before, you probably met this brand lately since the Reedle Shot series has been a huge trend lately. VT is not a new brand. You might have heard about this brand because it collaborated with BTS. They mix natural ingredients with technology. The brand has a viral sun cushion, but lately, the new Reedle Shot products are getting viral one by one.

VT Reedle Shot 100 - Packaging

The plastic bottle of VT Reedle Shot 100 comes in paper packaging. The bottle itself looks elegant, it has these chrome silver details on the upper part of the bottle, the paint peels off after longer time a bit, but it's not super tragic. The pump works perfectly, I like this tiny white thing that blocks the products. I left it to make sure the product was always fresh.

VT Reedle Shot 100 - Scent & Texture

The scent of VT Reedle Shot 100 is ideal for people who don't like scented products. This serum doesn't smell like anything, the composition is free from essential oils or perfume ingredients.

Reedle Shot 100 has quite a liquid, white texture. It kinda reminds me of milk, but it's thicker. I see that especially after I apply niacinamide serum on my skin before using it, the texture soaks into the skin quickly.

Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Dipropylene Glycol is a solvent with moisturizing properties. Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Its origin can be natural or synthetic - depending on the product. It protects TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and naturally occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs - natural moisturizing factors. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it just the opposite - it protects your skin from irritation.

Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 - a vitamin soluble in water. It helps with problems like wrinkles, acne, skin texture, and enlarged pores and promotes collagen synthesis. Niacinamide makes the skin barrier stronger. It might be handy in cellulite treatments. Do you want to fight pigmentation or uneven skin? Try to mix niacinamide with Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Vitamin C, Tranexamic Acid or Retinol. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps with the penetration of active ingredients, protects products from drying and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and make your hair stronger.

Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil is an oily emollient. It's a source of oleic and palmitoleic acid as well as vitamins A and E. Macadamia Oil is a phenomenal choice for sensitive and dry skin. In hair care, this ingredient can help with dry and fragile hair. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative - it protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Ethylhexyl Palmitate is an oily emollient that provides a satin-like film on the skin. It makes brushing your hair easier. Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer is a stabilizer. Polyisobutene is a thickener.

Hydrolyzed Sponge or Spongilla spicules is a microparticle derived from a marine sponge. It's a natural exfoliator, but brands use it as an ingredient that boosts the absorption of skincare products. Glycereth-26 is a synthetic emollient and humectant. Even the name reminds us of glycerin - it's not a surprise since Glycereth-26 is related to glycerin. It has thickening properties. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. Caprylyl Glycol is an oily emollient and humectant. It leaves a moisturizing film on the surface of the skin.

Adenosine naturally occurs in the skin. One of the adenosine's roles in our bodies is being a neurotransmitter. In skin care, we use adenosine for its anti-wrinkle properties. Adenosine is an anti-inflammatory ingredient. It can boost collagen production. At the same time, it speeds up the healing process. Adenosine can have positive effects on reducing redness. In hair care, adenosine can help with hair loss. Sodium Polyacrylate is a thickener with a strong ability to absorb water. It helps with texture and it can create a film on the skin to prevent TEWL (transepidermal water loss). Sodium Hyaluronate or sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. It's a form of hyaluronic acid and naturally occurs in the skin. Sodium Hyaluronate has strong water-binding properties. Sodium hyaluronate combined with elastin and collagen is like a scaffolding for the skin. It has hydrating properties and leaves a hydrating film on the skin, but sodium hyaluronate prevents skincare products from drying.

Centella Asiatica Extract is probably the most popular extract in skincare. It comes under a few names - Asiatic pennywort, tiger grass or Gotu kola. Centella Asiatica's roots are in Ayurveda. This extract is successful because it's a source of triterpene saponins - madecassoside and asiaticoside. Centella Asiatica Extract has anti-inflammatory properties. It speeds up the wound-healing process. You can use it to treat acne since it has soothing and antibacterial properties. It boosts fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin or even helps with hyaluronic acid synthesis. Centella is recommended for rosacea and cellulitis since it helps with blood microcirculation. In hair care, Centella can help with hair growth. Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside is a non-ionic surfactant and stabilizer. Sorbitan Oleate is a non-ionic surfactant. It's also an emulsifier.

Xanthan Gum is a polysaccharide that works as a thickener. Propolis Extract is sometimes called bee glue since it's a combination of resins used to create a hive. People have used Propolis for thousands of years, it has antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It's a soothing ingredient as well. Propolis extract is a source of Vitamins and minerals. You can use propolis to treat acne and inflammation. If you're allergic to bees then I recommend you avoid this ingredient but if bees are not a problem for you - it's an ingredient which can change your skincare game. Asiaticoside is one of the terpenoids found in Centella Asiatica. It's a substance with antioxidant properties. This terpenoid can improve your skin by speeding up the wound healing process. It can also help with wrinkles and boost collagen production.

Madecassoside is a bioactive part of Centella Asiatica. It's an antioxidant and can stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis to promote wound healing. It has soothing effects, and it might have anti-aging properties if we combine it with vitamin C. Madecassic Acid is a bioactive part of Centella Asiatica. It's an antioxidant with calming properties. It can help with sensitive skin and wounds by speeding up the healing process. Asiatic Acid is a terpenoid found in Centella Asiatica. This ingredient stimulates collagen production and wound healing. It has soothing properties, but it's also an antioxidant. Glycine is an amino acid. Glycine is one of the components found in collagen. It has moisturizing properties and it helps with wrinkles. Serine is an amino acid and one of the substances in the natural moisturizing factor (NMF). It's a humectant with anti-aging properties. In hair care, it has antistatic properties.

Glutamic Acid is an amino acid that naturally occurs in the human body. It's a humectant that helps with the right pH of the skin. Aspartic Acid is an amino acid, that occurs in the human body. Aspartic Acid takes part in Urea's cycle. It brings moisture to the skin. In hair care, Aspartic Acid protects hair from breakage and split ends. Leucine is an amino acid, that helps with wrinkles. Alanine is an amino acid. It can delicately help with moisture of the skin and it has anti-static properties. Lysine is an amino acid with anti-aging properties. It adds moisture to the skin, it can also strengthen the skin and hair. Arginine is an amino acid. It helps with protein biosynthesis in adults. According to research from 1964, a lack of arginine might raise your chance of getting an HSV infection.

Tyrosine is an amino acid with antioxidant properties. It speeds up the melanin synthesis process and has anti-static properties. Phenylalanine is an amino acid. It's a moisturizing ingredient and a part of the natural moisturizing factor (NMF). Phenylalanine is used in combination with UVA to treat vitiligo. Threonine is an amino acid with a positive influence on the skin since threonine helps with collagen and elastin synthesis. It makes your skin look smooth. It also has a positive meaning for the hair, it protects hair from break, has antistatic properties and makes curly hair look better. Proline is an amino acid. It has anti-aging properties, it boosts skin elasticity. Proline + Vitamin C is a great combination for mature skin.

Valine is a hydrating amino acid. It's one of the ingredients that boosts the natural moisturizing factor (NMF). Isoleucine is an amino acid. It's a moisturizer that helps repair the skin barrier. It has anti-static properties. Histidine is an amino acid with moisturizing and soothing properties. Methionine is an amino acid that improves skin elasticity and moisture. It has anti-static properties. Cysteine is an antioxidant, it regenerates the skin and nourishes hair and skin. It prevents skin from the negative effects of UV radiation.

How does VT Reedle Shot 100 work?

According to the brand VT Reedle Shot 100 is an innovative skincare product which I fully agree, with because I haven’t seen anything like this before VT. Nowadays brands like Dr G., Isntree or Medicube have their solutions based on spicules, but I believe VT was the first known to most Western consumers.

VT Reedle Shot 100 is supposed to minimize pores and improve skin texture. The main ingredient hidden after this product is Cica Reedle - a patented solution based on Centella Asiatica Extract and Silica - a mineral. This microparticle is supposed to be easily absorbed by the skin. Vt Cica Reedle is 15μm in size, while a single pore size is about 200μm. If it comes to the particle - don’t worry, it’s said that it doesn’t stay in your skin, it’s removed with dead skin cells, but it helps transport an active ingredient deeper into skin layers (mostly epidermis layers).

Does using Reedle Shot 100 hurt? Yes, but don’t worry. Reedle shot has its name for a reason, it kinda reminds me of microneedling but with no actual needles. Patented Cica Reedle particles look under the microscope like tiny needles, you don’t have to worry about safety - if this product wouldn’t be safe, you couldn’t see it on the market. Every skincare that comes legally to the market needs to promise you certain levels of safety and fits strict standards of local law or even law internationally. Reedle Shot particles are derived during the enzyme-rich fermentation process.

Besides Cica Reedle, VT added to this product Cicahyalon - another patented ingredient that’s supposed to strengthen the skin barrier and calm irritation. It also contains Amino-Acid complex (it contains Glycine, Serine, Glutamic Acid, Aspartic Acid, Leucine, Alanine, Lysine, Arginine, Tyrosine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, Proline, Valine, Isoleucine, Histidine, Methionine and Cysteine) and Low-molecular Hyaluronic Acid (it hides under the name Sodium Hyaluronate).

According to VT, this product is non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic. It improves absorption, skin density and blood circulation.  How to use it? VT recommended using it after cleansing, I use it after toner or essence. I see that lots of people make lots of tiny dots on their skin with this product - don’t do it, one or two pumps are enough to cover the entire skin. It is recommended to use sun care products after this one. Yes, you can apply it in the morning routine, but you can also apply it during the evening routine.

I said before that this product is lightweight but it's a specific product - you love it or hate it. When I apply it on my skin it just hurts, it's like doing microneedling without any numbing cream. This sensation stays on the skin for a few minutes, but I can go through that because it reduces redness. I've never had anything like that before. A few people asked me if it helps with deeper post-acne scars - it all depends, I see that some ice pick scars are less visible.

When I started to use this product, VT didn’t have any special plan recommended, but now I see that the brand recommends using Mild Reedle Shot 50 with other products like using Mild Reedle Shot 50 during morning routine, Reedle Shot 300 on Tuesdays and Fridays, Reedle Shot 100 on Wednesday and Saturday, Reedle Shot 700 on Sunday, Reedle Shot 1000 on Thursday, and Monday is a Mild Reedle Shot 50 day. Will I try this routine? I could try it, I already got version 100 and 700, but I guess getting Mild Reedle Shot and Reedle Shot 1000 is a bit tricky. This plan is recommended for people who are using Reedle Shot for a longer period. If you’re new to this product start with Mild Reedle Shot 50 or Reedle Shot 100.

It’s good to remember that you shouldn’t use it with beauty devices or LED masks. It’s also not recommended to use it during beauty or dermatological procedures - give yourself at least two weeks after treatment. It shouldn’t be used on damaged skin, lips or eyes.

Tl;dr: I love this series, my skin looks like paper - you can spot all the veins under it, it gets red quickly, and I feel like VT Reedle Shot 100 makes this redness less visible. It lasts long, but I see some people just do tiny spots all around their face - I see no difference if you use half of the box on your entire face or if you use 1-2 pumps.
