Purito is an important brand when it comes to Korean sunscreens, because one scandal has changed our sunscreen choices, but with this new Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ the brand proves that you can learn from the past mistake and set a high standard. It's an updated formula, so what's new in Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ ?
What's UV?
UV stands for Ultraviolet. It's nothing else but the selected range of frequencies of the electromagnetic spectrum. UV rays are invisible to humans, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Each type of UV—UVA, UVB, and UVC—has different wavelengths and properties.
UVA, UVB and UVC - what do each of them do and where can you meet them?
I'm sure you know about UVA and UVB, but UVC or the difference between UVA2 and UVA1? Let's start from the shortest wavelengths - UVC (100nm - 280nm) exist in space and is absorbed by the ozone layer, it can kill bacteria that's why on Earth you can find it in germicidal lamps - you might ask me, but these lamps are usually visible to a human - it's because they are made in a way that makes them safe for you and other people - you shouldn't enter the room when the UV lamp is on and make people aware that the lamp is on we add other substances so the lamp has a blue/purple colour when it's on. This technology is used for example at labs and hospitals.
We all remember UVB (280nm –315nm) because it is said that B in UVB stands for BURN. Indeed, this UV length is responsible for sunburns, but it also helps synthesise Vitamin D - a vitamin which we all need because lack of it can lead to osteoporosis. UVB is focused on the epidermis aka the outer layer of the skin while UVA (315nm –400nm) can penetrate through the epidermis and dermis so it penetrates your skin deeper. A in its name stands for Aging. The bad news is that UVA can penetrate glass, and both UVA and UVB cause lots of damage including skin cancer and oxidative stress.
Should I wear sunscreen at home?
We already know that UVA penetrates through the glass so do we need to use sunscreen at home? Yes, especially if you spend lots of time working near the window then it's better to put on a layer of sunscreen in the morning and have any type of protection at home as well. But you can also use window films to reduce the risk. The choice is left to you, what I do is keep my blinds on the window during the entire morning and when the sun is not that intense because my windows are situated on the Eastern side the light usually starts to fade afternoon - usually by afternoon I already have sunscreen on, few times reapplied.
What's the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen?
It depends on which side we look at this topic. Mineral sunscreens are sunscreens that don't contain any carbon atoms - this automatically makes them inorganic sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens contain carbon atoms, which makes them organic substances. The main difference is that mineral sunscreen usually leaves a white cast, and it's better if we use both Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide for a broad spectrum of UV protection. Chemical sunscreens don't leave a white cast, and they have more sophisticated formulas. Both are amazing, in some cases, PIH (hyperpigmentation), mineral sunscreens, and natural pigments can make a good layer of protection from UV rays.
Sunscreen reapplication
The majority of brands recommend reapplying sunscreen every 2-3 hours. The reason behind this is simple - we are active, we are sweating, we wear clothes or we touch our faces. All these things can remove a layer of sunscreen from the skin. We react differently to the same amount of UV radiation - my skin might react badly to 5 minutes of sun without protection, and my skin might need 10 more minutes. That's why on average we say that reapplying sunscreen every 2-3 hours is the best.
Meet the brand: Purito
Purito is a K-beauty brand focused on the skin and the environment. The brand made a cool video about its history and why it removed mineral oils, PEGs and many other ingredients. The name Purito combines the words Purify and the Chinese character To (土) which stands for soil. The brand name's meaning is to go back to the roots and healthy skin barrier with pure ingredients. The brand is against animal testing, so all their products are Cruelty-Free, they also donate money to Best Friend Animal Society. All the formulas (except snail line) are 100% Vegan- Friendly. They also make paper packaging from recycled paper - that's one of the things you'll notice ASAP. The packaging used by Purito has a different colour and texture. In 2024 Purito went through rebranding. Purito focuses more on its roots, each of the main ingredients used by Purito has a local origin. The main values of the brand are nature, simplicity and community. Purito tries its best to incorporate ethical and eco-conscious practices. The new motto of the brand is Rooted in Wonder. One of the biggest changes is the design of the product.
Purito sunscreen scandal
In late 2020 Purito was involved in a sunscreen scandal. Purito's Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ turned out to have a lower SPF value than promised. Tl;dr: lots of people lost their trust in Korean sunscreens, but also lots of brands started to send their products to a few labs - including the ones in Europe to check the SPF and PA values before releasing the sunscreen. I feel like it was a big lesson for Purito because even if they failed, they learned a lot from this situation.
Btw, I tested Purito's Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ during colder months so for me this sunscreen was pretty good I'm a person who needs sun protection because the first ray of sun = I get an allergic reaction or my skin gets some freckles.

Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ - Packaging
I tested a miniature version of Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ since I was curious about this product, but if I have a chance to buy a smaller version of sunscreen so I can test it for you - I'm open to that. Similar to full-sized, Purito's Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ comes in a paper box. It has this green & orange gradient which I love. The new rebranding is more eye-catching.
Inside the box, there's a white tube with orange details and a cap. The plastic is soft so you can easily squeeze it. Purito uses eco-friendly recycled plastic.
Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ - Texture & Scent
There are two reasons why I appreciate this sunscreen - texture & scent! Imagine that you have your favourite moisturizer but it's a sunscreen. Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ is so hydrating, that I even feel like this watery texture is a bit cool. It's a cream but it's so lightweight. At first, it feels a bit sticky but leave it a minute or two and you can still feel a delicate, moisturizing film on the skin but the stickiness is gone.
Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ is unscented, but it might have a delicate scent that comes naturally from ingredients - for me, it smells like a typical unscented sunscreen. That's something I keep saying in reviews - somehow for me all sunscreens, even unscented ones have a scent.
Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ - SPF & PA
As I said before, Purito learned something from its scandal that's why Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ was tested by the Korea Institute of Dermatological Sciences and ABICH. According to the Korea Institute of Dermatological Sciences, this sunscreen has SPF 50.2±5.0 and PA 17.8±3.1 which means it's SPF 50+ and PA++++. According to ABICH, the SPF value of this sunscreen is 63.7 and PA is 20.8 which means it's SPF50+ and PA++++. Purito releases full reports on their website so you can check it on your own.

Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms, or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the product's content. Propanediol, also known as natural glycol, is an alternative to propylene glycol. It is a solvent with additional moisturizing properties, making the product smooth. It can even improve the effectiveness of active ingredients.
Dibutyl Adipate is an oily emollient. This oil-soluble ingredient dissolves in oils. It creates a hydrating film on the surface of the skin to prevent the skin from dehydration. You can see it in sunscreens as a solvent. Dicaprylyl Carbonate is a dry emollient. It prevents your skin from TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and makes your skin barrier stronger. It makes your skin velvet in touch. In hair care, Dicaprylyl Carbonate supports your hair condition from difficulties like exposure to cold and warm temperatures. It prevents hair from dryness. It can be used as a solvent or emulsifier.
Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate or Uvinul A Plus is a sun-protecting agent. It covers the UVA range (320-400 nm), and its peak of protection is 354 nm. Ethylhexyl Triazone or Uvinul T 150 is a sun-protecting agent. It covers the UVB range (280-320nm). Its peak is at 314 nm. Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine is quite a hard name to remember, that's why you can find people talking about this ingredient by calling it Tinosorb S. It's one of the newer types of sunscreen agents and one of the strongest ones. It's a chemical sunscreen that protects skin from UVA (315-400 nm) & UVB (280-315 nm), and its peak is high. It's a stable sunscreen that works with other sun-protecting substances to protect their early photodegradation.
Amylopectin is a thickener. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps penetrate active ingredients, protects products from drying, and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and strengthen hair. Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol sounds a bit like a magic spell. You might know it as a Tinosorb M - a new generation of sun-protecting agents. Tinosorb M is a broad-spectrum filter since it covers UVA and UVB wavelengths (280-400nm). It's a so-called hybrid sunscreen agent because it's between mineral and chemical sunscreen agents. It might leave some white cast.
Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Depending on the product, its origin can be natural or synthetic. It protects TEWL (transepidermal water loss), which naturally occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs and a natural moisturizing factor. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it—just the opposite—it protects your skin from irritation. Behenyl Alcohol might sound scary, but it's a fatty alcohol. This type of alcohol benefits the skin since it works as an emollient and helps with the product's texture. Poly C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate stabilizes the emulsion.
Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate is an oil-in-water emulsifier, suitable for vegans. Sodium Acrylates Crosspolymer-2 is absorbent. It makes the skin look soft and adds a "blur" effect. Carbomer is a synthetic thickener. Tromethamine is a synthetic pH adjuster. Decyl Glucoside is a non-ionic surfactant that works as an emulsifier and thickener. Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer is a synthetic polymer and quite a large molecule. It works as a thickener and emulsion stabiliser. (-)-alpha-bisabolol is a soothing and anti-inflammatory ingredient related to chamomile.
Panthenol is a humectant. It prevents skin from TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss). Panthenol is also known as vitamin B5, and it helps with inflammation. Panthenol can soothe the skin irritated by preservatives, scent ingredients, and chemical sunscreens - it might have a meaning for lipids in our skin and skin barrier. It speeds up the healing process. It's good to use it after sunbathing. In hair care, Panthenol has moisturizing properties. If you have problems detangling your hair or hair growth go for Panthenol. It is good to mix it with niacinamide and zinc oxide. You can see it in products for atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. Caprylhydroxamic Acid neutralizes metal ions in the formula.
Centella Asiatica Extract is probably the most popular extract in skincare. It comes under a few names - Asiatic pennywort, tiger grass or Gotu kola. Centella Asiatica's roots are in Ayurveda. This extract is successful because it's a source of triterpene saponins - madecassoside and asiaticoside. Centella Asiatica Extract has anti-inflammatory properties. It speeds up the wound-healing process. You can use it to treat acne since it has soothing and antibacterial properties. It boosts fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin or even helps with hyaluronic acid synthesis. Centella is recommended for rosacea and cellulitis since it helps with blood microcirculation. In hair care, Centella can help with hair growth.
Tocopherol is an antioxidant known as Vitamin E. It's an oil-soluble vitamin that fights free radicals and makes UVB protection and natural lipid barrier stronger. It's good to mix it with vitamin C for better effects. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars. Ceramides naturally occur in the skin—they're like cement. Ceramide NP (also known as Ceramide 3) strengthens the skin barrier to prevent dehydration.
Dipropylene Glycol is a solvent with moisturizing properties. Cholesterol is a lipid with a crucial role in our skin. This ingredient makes sure that our skin barrier is healthy. It can also work as a stabilizer. Propylene Glycol is a humectant and solvent. It creates a delicate film on the surface of the skin to prevent TEWL (transepidermal water loss). Xanthan Gum is a polysaccharide that works as a thickener. Glyceryl Stearate is an emollient with emulsifying properties. Ceramide AS protects skin from TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss), makes your skin barrier stronger and prevents skin desquamation.
Ceramide AP or Ceramide 6-II is one of the ingredients found in intercellular cement. It protects the skin from TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss) and it makes the skin barrier stronger. Ceramide NS is one of the ingredients found in intercellular cement. It makes the skin barrier stronger and it prevents dehydration. It calms irritated skin. Hydrogenated Lecithin is a version of lecithin. It works as an emollient in the formulas. Ceramide EOP (also known as Ceramide 1) protects skin from TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss). It's mostly recommended for dry skin, ageing skin or dehydrated and sensitive skin. It creates a protective, occlusive layer on the surface of the skin. Ceramide EOP can help with hair care.
How does Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ work?
Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ is an updated formula of one of the brand's best-selling sunscreens. I haven't tried the old version so I can't compare both, but I can tell you a bit about why Purito feels so confident about Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ that promotes it as a 10-hour long-lasting sunscreen for outdoor activities.
One of the main focuses of this product is high protection that can last for 10 hours. We are aware that we sweat during the day, touch the skin or go swim during summer so we need to reapply sunscreen regularly. There's also another issue - MED dose. MED stands for minimal erythema dose and it's a term which I first met while learning about light therapy for psoriasis. It's the lowest UV radiation dose that causes visible redness (erythema) on the skin within 24 hours after exposure. I had a chance to take part in testing MED, but since I'm very pale I had to cover my entire body and wear special glasses and I was kicked out by my professor to stand outside the lab while the lamp was working because she was so worried I might get burned. Because of my skin colour, I react to sunlight badly and I cannot imagine not reapplying sunscreen that's why I take these words about 10 hours of long-lasting protection with a bit of disbelief and I recommend you to do that too.
As I said, I would still reapply Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ every 2-3 hours, but I have to appreciate that Purito did its best to do tests and prove that its sunscreen is great for outdoor activities. It's called "5-level outdoor defense". Purito tried to make a water-resistant, sand-resistant, sweat-resistant and seawater-resistant sunscreen that's compatible with outdoor activities. It's not the first sunscreen like this, Japanese brand Biore tried to do this too and honestly, Purito did it way better - you can read the review yourself, my experience with Athlizm IR wasn't the best and that's one of the reasons why I don't review Japanese sunscreens, but that's a bit longer topic. Anyway, Purito tested if this 5-level outdoor defense system is working and apparently it is. Well, there's no way I can measure it, but I do feel like this sunscreen does a good job on my skin.

The key ingredients in this sunscreen are 5 types of ceramides, centella asiatica and panthenol. It's definitely a sunscreen that's focused on skin barrier and sun protection. It's lightweight yet super moisturizing, it's non-greasy but you can feel the moisturizing film on the surface of the skin. It's an elegant formula that doesn't roll under my makeup and it looks good even with cushions that are fully focused on glow - if you want to have glass skin then Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ and Hince Second Skin Glow Cushion is a match.
It doesn't leave a white cast, but since it contains tinosorbs if you have a warmer skin tone, it might leave a bit of greyish tint on your skin, the deeper your skin colour, the bigger the chance that you will notice this tint. If you use this sunscreen under a foundation then it shouldn't be a problem. Besides that, I don't find anything bad in this sunscreen, the texture feels comfortable on the skin, it's not drying and it works even with oily skin.

Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ costs €16.20 (US$17.60) for a full-size product (60ml) on Olive Young*. You can use my affiliate code BETWEEND0 on your order.
Overall, I'm positively surprised by the Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++. It’s definitely one of the best sunscreens released in 2024. For 2025, the brand has announced a new sunscreen for the American market, Purito Sun Day Adventure Sunscreen SPF 50 – this cream meets the FDA requirements, which honestly may be strict, but are very outdated compared to the EU standards. At the moment, it’s unclear if this sunscreen will be available outside the USA, but it’s not the first brand to release a sunscreen specifically for the American market this year – Mixsoon and Axis-y have done the same.
Another new product this year is the Purito Daily Soft Touch Sunscreen Stick SPF50+ PA++++, which I hope to buy and test for you.
Have you tried Purito sunscreens yet?
